Remi was born as the only child into a happy family who cared dearly for her. One day her parents took her on a trip to their mountain villa. They rode in their carriage, but soon the day turned dark, so they decided to stay in Mei Li Inn. As her parents checked into the inn, Remi decided to check out the area, but she went too deep into the forest and ended up getting lost. Afraid of the dark, all she could do was stay where she was and hope someone would find her soon.

It started to snow, and it was so cold out there. All she could think was when will my parents find me? Staring into space, she saw a light approaching her.

She yelled out, "Is anyone there?"

There was no answer. She was scared and all alone. She didn't know what to do besides wait. The light slowly started to come closer. A little boy's voice was all she heard: "Hello? Are you there? Are you okay?"

As he started to approach Remi, she ran to him, hoping he was someone familiar, but he wasn't. He was a little boy who she didn't even know.
She whispered, "Who are you?"

With a smile, he answered, "You don't have to worry. Your family is looking for you. They'll come find us soon, I promise."

Remi looked down, hoping that someone would find them soon. The little boy handed her a blanket to cover herself.
He told her, "It's cold. You should wear this. Your parents wouldn't want you getting sick."
Remi did as he said and put on the blanket. They stayed where they were in fear of becoming even more lost than they already were. The little boy noticed how scared Remi was.

He asked, "Are you scared of the dark?"

Remi answered, "Yes, it's usually very bright where I live. There's never a dark or quiet moment around me."

He gave her a soft smile and the lantern he carried.

He told her, "Lanterns can always cheer people up."

She smiled as his words comforted her, knowing that her parents would find her. After waiting a while, they heard someone in the distance.
"REMI, WHERE ARE YOU?"

Remi realized it was the voice of her dad.
She yelled out, "DAD, I'M OVER HERE!"

Remi's parents ran over to where they heard the sound. Remi's parents led both of them back to the inn where they could be cozy. Her mom brought her up to the room so she could get ready for bed.

She asked her mom, "Mom, who was that boy?"
Her mom didn't have an answer. All she could say was, "I don't know, love, maybe you'll see him tomorrow when we wake up."

Remi nodded and fell asleep. As soon as she woke up, she got ready as soon as possible. Then she headed downstairs, hoping to see the boy once more, but she never did. She heard from the adults that he had already left with his family. She never saw him again.
