I was on the front steps of Castle Dimitrescu, knocking on the heavy, ornate wooden doors. The loud thump thump thump of the knocker matched my erratic heartbeat, I don't know what compelled me to take on this job, and I don't have any idea what to expect. I was sent a letter a few days ago telling me to arrive here if I'm interested in a job, and seeing as how I had no money, I grabbed at the chance.
The doors slowly swung open, and I came face-to-face with white fabric. "Up here, pet." A husky voice stated, and I dragged my eyes to the tallest woman I've ever seen. The deathly pale woman smirked at me, her bright yellow eyes pierced into my own, and a chill ran down my spine.
What have I gotten myself into?
"You must be y/n, come inside so I may get you situated with the rules and your living quarters." She beckons me inside and my jaw drops at the elaborate and richly decorated entrance hall. She walked me through hallways and rooms, pointing out the kitchens and bedrooms and wings until she led me to the hidden away servants' quarters. "This is where you'll sleep, and you'll eat in the kitchen with the other maid." She explained my duties and then left me to get settled as it was quite late by now.
The room was small, but the bed was nice, and there was a wardrobe and desk. I quickly fell asleep with only a single thought on my mind,
Why was there only one other maid?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up bright and early, ready to start my duties. The moment I step out of the doorway, I'm surrounded by flies and a wicked giggle echoes in my ear. A blond woman materializes and stalks towards me, I instinctively move back. "Mother told us a new maid would be arriving, and aren't you a cute one?" A wall stops my progress, and she comes even closer, one arm trapping me while a hand grips onto my face, cruel eyes staring into mine, "I can't wait to tear into your little body, so be quick and give me a reason to."
Her nails pierce my skin, making me yelp. With another giggle she vanishes in a cloud of flies. What just happened?? I rush down to the kitchen, wiping my face and trying to make the blood stop. Once situated for a quick breakfast, the other maid there notices my marks and comments, "So, you met one of the sisters."
"What is she? There's more?"
"A monster is what she and her sisters are, everyone in this house is pure evil. Keep your head down so they might forget you exist."
I take a good look at her: pale and with bags under her eyes, her left cheek has a still-healing gash, I only feel more questions bubble up my throat, but seeing as how she brusquely stands up afterwards I don't want to bother her. I eat quickly, clean up, and leave.
I must have spent hours dusting off shelves, polishing tables, and mopping floors, and I haven't come across a single soul. That other maid must've been lying, but then I felt a pair of eyes watching me. Turning around, I see another woman, this time with black hair, and she wastes no time in lashing out with a weapon and slashing my arms. I scream and start running down the halls, tears blurring my eyes and a crazed laugh not too far behind me. I hear her scream, "Run my prey, I'll catch you when I'm done playing with you!"
I lock the door behind me once I reach my room and look for a piece of fabric to wrap around my arm to stop the bleeding. I feel my heart beating so loud, like it's trying to escape. Well, there is another sister after all...
I slip into bed and clutch my arm to my chest as I fall into a fitful sleep. Only my first day on the job and already two women threatened to kill me, wonderful.
