Prologue 

Y/n sat down in the hospital room, the words the doctor told her going through one ear and out the other. The only sound she could hear was the beeping of the monitor, and the slow steady breathing of her sleeping twin brother. 

The doctor was holding up the printed x-ray scan, "Are you listening ms.L/n?"

"I-I'm sorry sir.." She said shaking her head as she finally lifted her eyes from her brother to meet the elderly man. The doctor sighed, although he was a bit frustrated to have to repeat everything he had just said; the feeling was surpassed by his pity for her. "I just.." the girl let out a shaky exhale, rubbing her forearm in attempt to comfort herself. "I just spaced out." 

"Don't apologize ms.L/n, I know it must be hard seeing your twin brother like this. I'll leave you for now." He said, placing the x-ray photos back into a folder which he handed to the girl. 

Y/n watched as the man left the room, sliding the door closed behind him. Y/n looked down at the folder in her hands, opening it a gasp fell from her lips as she slapped a hand over her mouth. 

It didn't take a genius to identify which part of the body they were looking at, and they didn't need to be a doctor to see the significant damage done. 

Y/n closed her eyes tightly to stop the tears from falling, holding her hand against her mouth she muffled her sobs. 

 Her eyes shooting back open when she felt a hand reach out to her and grab her other hand. 

The boy laying down in the bed weakly held her hand in his, his eyes half lidded as he struggled to stay conscious. He opened his mouth to try and speak but sealed his lips as no words came out of his scratchy throat. 

Y/n swallowed her cries, not wanting to break down and appear strong for her brother. Dropping her hand from her mouth she hid the x-rays inside the folder, not wanting him to see it yet. 

"Sachi, I called sis.. She's booking a flight to get back here as soon as she can." Y/n told her brother who noticeably frowned at her words, shaking his head. It was obvious he wanted to object to their older sister coming back to japan, but he had no say in the matter. Y/n's eyes softened as she gently squeezed his hand, "I know.. I know.." She said understandingly with a soft tone. 

Sitting in silence, Y/n gently caressed her brothers hand with her thumb. Watching as his eyes closed once again, as he allowed himself to fall unconscious instead of fighting the side effects from his pain killers. 

Y/n let her eyes flutter shut as well, deciding not to fight the exhaustion anymore. She had been in the hospital for three days now, and for three days since Sachi's accident she went without sleep. Even now as she closed her eyes, she knew after receiving the unsettling news she would sleep very uncomfortably. 

The fact that her twin brother would never be able to walk again completely shattered her.
