Quinn

Washington D.C. The country's capital. Also the city where my life nearly ended. It was the week before freshman year started. My mother wanted to take me on a special trip to D.C., my guess is because she felt guilty for leaving us. My father and her just got divorced, and she was moving away from LA for Chicago in a week, and I wasn't allowed to go with her.

I think she felt guilty for leaving, and that's why she was taking me on this trip, but little did she know this was the worst thing she could do for me. Neither of us knew it yet though.

Her and I never had the best relationship ever, and we fought a lot. A fight was what caused this whole thing. We were driving to our hotel, we hadn't even arrived yet, when we got in another one of our disagreements. At this point I don't even remember what it was about. All I remember was the deafening silence in between the shouting when I could feel the car running along the road. Every so often it would bounce up and down as we ran over a pothole that hadn't been filled in yet. After the most recent bit of shouting, my mother failed to notice a stop sign, and a car was coming down the other road.

The last thing that I felt was being thrown to the side as the other car slammed into the drivers side. The last thing I heard was the breaks of each of our cars screeching as we tried to stop in time. Afterwards, just silence. After that everything was a blur. I remember flames, glass, bright flashing lights, and people staring at me. I felt someone lifting me into a van, and then everything went dark and quiet.

Nothing but endless silence.
