Devi had taken not to question the weird relationship between the two girls. They were the polar opposites but somehow, always hung around each other. They had an undefinable dynamic. Sana's grace however, wasn't just restricted to the walls and bounds of the pretty girl walking next to her. She reciprocated the same with Devi.
"Well, that's Sana. Another breed altogether, isn't she?" Devi mused, raising her eyebrows.
"Tell me about it," Prathibha took a long, exasperated sigh before continuing, "I mean, tell me, how is it possible that she's taken zero interest in the guys here?" she looked as though she was in the process of solving a complex puzzle.
"I have a theory." smirked Devi.
"That she's into girls?" chuckled Prathibha. Devi nodded, "not impossible if you ask me."
Prathibha hummed in agreement. There was a brief second of silence before Devi broke it, "...but do you think she could really be.." she asked in a low voice.
"I don't know." Prathibha sighed, her words toppling each other. "But would things change if they were?..you know.. would you see her differently?" she asked in a hush.
"I- I haven't really thought about that you know?" Devi replied, her voice smaller than she intended. Finally gaining some composure, she spoke up again, this time, smiling. "But I guess not. It's Sana we're talking about. One and the same."
Prathibha nodded in agreement. They walked in comfortable silence towards the Quadrangle.
"Aw shit. All the sports rackets are taken." complained Devi who had been looking forward to a short game of Badminton.
"Ugh! This is what happens when you let Sana take too much of your time." Prathibha rolled her yes. Devi laughed in response. Just then, a group of boys walked by them. Prathibha took to fixing her hair whilst Devi just stared.
"*insert guy's name* gang." she informed shortly after they were out of the girl's line of sight.
"Ah yes. Heard of them." Prathibha replied. Suddenly, she found herself laughing out of no where much to Devi's confusion. "What?" she asked the bemused girl in front of her.
"You know what Sana would say if she were here...?" Prathibha asked, trying to gain composure.
"Why stare at those dudes when these beautiful girls exist?" Devi answered slyly.
"Exactly. Wow." Prathibha shook her head, still chuckling. She was beautiful when she laughed. In fact, she was always beautiful. And Devi wasn't blind to it. She'd never missed it when Prathibha would flip her brown locks behind her or when the sun would shine down on her yes, creating a river of chocolate.
Devi found herself staring a little too long and an awkward silence had overcome them once more. She found herself responsible to break it. "Prathi..." she started slow.
"Mmmm?" she replied, her gaze focused on the girls playing basket ball in the corner.
"Have you ever thought about it?" Devi found herself asking, a little surprised at her own candor.
"Thought about what?" Prathibha turned, now looking Devi in the eye: disarming Devi of all her senses. What was happening?
"I.. uh... nothing." Devi replied. Maybe the sudden questioning of Sana's sexuality made her feel so unguarded. At least, that's what she told herself to relieve her of the stress of worrying.
"Come on. Tell me?" Prathibha prompted with her puppy eyed gaze. It made her laugh; well, Prathibha always made Devi laugh.
"I just mean," Devi finally started, "Have you ever thought of what it would be like- feel like- to be with a girl?" she questioned hesitantly.
