I chuckle but roll over with a smirk.
"Good night, Thomas."
"Good night, Newt."
I wake the next morning with Thomas's arm draped over my side. I turn around and kiss him.
"Good morning." I say.
"Oh my god, it's like 6 am." Thomas groans. "Why are you up all the time?"
"Sleep is overrated." I say, getting up.
Thomas grabs my wrist. "No, don't go."
"Last night you tried to make me leave and now you want me to stay?" I ask incredulously.
"Just stay." He says, clearly exhausted.
I look at him. He's rather adorable when he's tired.
"Fine." I say, laying back down, this time facing him. "But really, make up your mind. No more back and forth."
"It's a different time." He says, his eyes closed.
"It's a three hour difference." I reply.
"Three hours can change a man." He says.
"Oh, shut up!" I hit him.
"Hey!" He says, his eyes open now. "What was that for?"
"For being a bloody idiot." I respond.
"I'm not an idiot." He presses his lips against mine. "Was that idiotic?'
"Yes." I say. "It was just also enjoyable."
He laughs and brushes his nose against mine. "Alright, get up."
"Oh. My. God!" I say.
"I'm getting up too, shut up." He says, pushing me out of bed.
I pull him up after me. "Come on, then."
He stands and wraps an arm around my shoulder. We walk to the main area where almost everyone is already up.
"FINALLY!" Minho calls and I laugh. "WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?" He shouts as he runs over to us.
"This one wouldn't get out of bed." I say, elbowing Thomas in the ribs.
"Ow!" He cries.
"Oh, shut up." I say, putting a hand on his side. "See, you're fine." I turn to Minho. "Why?"
"Why what?" He asks.
"Why did you want us up so bad? It's six in the morning." I say.
"Seven." He corrects. I glare at Thomas and he looks at me sheepishly. "I wanted you two up because...well, you might wanna see for yourself."
Thomas grabs my hand as we follow Minho.
"I'm forgiven then?" I ask, chuckling.
"Mmm, maybe." He says. "Come on, let's go see what Minho wants."
Minho leads us to a stone building. He stops in front of the door.
"It's..." He sighs. "Just, don't freak out."
He leads us inside and opens a door. A girl lays in a bed and I immediately have flashbacks to the Glade.
"Oh my god." I whisper.
I glance at Thomas.
"Tommy?" I say. "Tommy? Are you alright?" I know he's thinking of Teresa.
The girl has bright orange hair and freckles across her face. She's asleep.
"Has she woken up?" I ask Minho.
"No." He says. "She collapsed on our beach last night."
Thomas suddenly drops my hand and runs out of the room.
"TOMMY!" I cry.
I try to go after him but Minho grabs my hand.
"Minho, let me go!" I shout.
"Leave him be." He says. "Just let him have some time alone."
I wrench out of Minho's grip and run after Thomas.
"TOMMY!" I yell, looking for him.
I find him in an empty room, sitting against a wall.
"Tommy, are you okay?" I ask, kneeling in front of him.
He nods.
"Nope. Bad question." I say. "What's wrong?"
"Teresa." Is all he says.
I put a hand on his knee. I sigh.
"Did you love her?" I ask. "Before me?"
"Newt, don't ask questions you don't want to know the answer to." He says, turning away from me.
I put to fingers on his cheek and turn his head back to me. "I know you love me now, Tommy." I say. "You can tell me."
He doesn't say anything, instead kissing me. I, probably stupidly, kiss him back. He pulls me against him. I take my lips off his reluctantly.
"Tommy, you can't just avoid questions by kissing me." I say.
"Seems to me like I can." He points out.
I sigh. "Thomas, no."
"Thomas, yes." He says.
I smile slightly. "Tommy, I'm serious."
"So am I." He says, looking at me.
"Okay." I stand. I grab his hands and pull him up with me. "Listen, I know that girl reminded you of Teresa, even though they look nothing alike, but you cannot just drown out your feelings." I say, pulling him closer to me despite my better judgement.
"I can, you just won't let me." He says.
I lick my lips. "I guess that's technically true, but-"
Then, a piercing scream shakes the building.
