elizabeth smiled softly at the thought of her redheaded girl. she pushed her trolley towards the train and heaved her extra bags into the storage compartment underneath the train, then hoisted her main trunk up and unlocked the cage to let merigold out. the ginger cat settled on her shoulder, his squishy face settling in her neck.
clambering onto the train, she made a beeline straight for her and lily's (and severus') usual compartment, her pace quickening as she grew more and more excited to see the redhead.
suddenly, she bumped into someone, and stumbled backwards, almost tripping over her own feet. she hit the side of the corridor rather hard and hit her arm. she winced as pain spiked through the area.
"uh, sor-"
familiar grey eyes locked onto her own, and she was memories crashed over her like a tidal wave of nostalgia.
unrestrained laughter. understanding. a warm embrace. safety. the faint smell of cigarettes and chocolate cosmos. wholeness. pranks on the slytherins.
pranks on the slytherins.
"black," she acknowledged with a nod of the head.
"jackson," he replied, equally as tense. it was a cold interaction, but elizabeth's eyes didn't match her tone. the rest of the marauders gathered behind sirius. there was a moment of silence as the two sides stared at one another, neither quite sure what to say, but neither side wanting to leave quite yet.
elizabeth wondered if she'd really made the right decision all those years ago; leaving them.
they'd never want you back anyway. useless.
"excuse me," she mumbled, and she slipped past them, walking the rest of the way to the compartment at a considerably slower pace.
when she finally arrived at compartment three-sixty-one, the first thing elizabeth saw was her. lily evans. the most beautiful human being on the face of the earth.
his beautiful orange-red hair was brushed down over her shoulder in soft waves, which indicated that she'd put it in braids after showering the night before. her bright, forest-green eyes were alight with happiness, and her mouth spread wide, mid-laugh.
elizabeth practically threw the compartment door open and launched herself at the evans girl, laughing. "lily!"
lily shrieked, then laughed as well. "lizzy!" she exclaimed, pulling the girl upright and hugging her with such a force that the jackson girl was almost strangled.
they sat like that for a moment, holding one another, rocking back and forth on the seat. elizabeth had somehow tangled herself around her girlfriend in a complicated knot, but she really couldn't care less right at the moment.
inhaling the rose scent from lily's hair, elizabeth allowed herself to fully relax. her shoulders slumped and she breathed slowly against lily's neck. the mix of scent's - rose from her hair, lemongrass from her perfume - was comforting in a way that immediately numbed her worries and brought back memories from when they'd first begun dating. good memories this time.
"i missed you so much," lily whispered, her breath tickling the jackson girl's ear. her embrace tightened even more than it already was, and elizabeth knew they'd sob about their holidays together later that night. "so much."
elizabeth's smile widened, and she pulled back just enough to kiss lily's nose softly. "i missed you, too, little flower." and then she pecked her on the cheek, then the lips, and had the full intention of spending the first five minutes back with her girlfriend making out, but someone cleared their throat behind the pair.
