Ana pulled her coat tighter around herself. It was absolutely freezing. She couldn’t see Harry anywhere. She stood back, getting out of the way of all the happy shoppers. She was beginning to despair. He was ten minutes late. She decided if he didn’t turn up in five more minutes then she would go home.
“Ana!”
She spun round to see Harry running towards her, looking slightly stressed.
“I’m so sorry I’m late.”
He blushed, looking at his hands.
“To be perfectly honest I couldn’t decide what to wear.”
Ana chuckled softly, holding Harry’s chin.
“It’s fine. You’ve got here now. Now, for this date?”
Harry grabbed her hand and started running. Ana could barely keep up and keep her breath so she decided just to keep up. He finally came to a stop and she started trying to catch her breath.
“You okay?”
She held up a finger to indicate to wait for a moment and Harry did, nervous. She took one final breath and stood up happily.
“Sorry, you ran quite fast.”
“It’s fine. I’m sorry for making you run. I had something booked and we had five minutes to get here.”
He led her up to a big sign and she giggled.
“Ice skating?”
“Is that okay?”
She laughed happily.
“Of course it’s okay!”
He got them in and took them to find skates.
“Have you ever been ice skating before?”
“Once or twice. You?””
“A few times.”
They quickly tied on their skates and helped each other to the rink. Harry pulled her along as she cautiously began skating.
“Come on. You’ll be fine. I’m here.”
She relaxed a little, letting him lead her further onto the ice. She let go of his hand and started skating around. She felt herself getting more and more confident and began to even enjoy herself. She looked around to see Harry doing ridiculous spinning and mucking about. She laughed at him, enjoying the spectacle. He seemed much more confident now that he knew the date was good.
“So, you like taking girls out to do cold things?”
He laughed, the sound rich and full.
“I’m sure I can think of a way to make you warm.”
Ana stuck her tongue out at him before sticking her arms out to stop herself falling.
“So, what made you think to take me ice skating?”
“No fire.”
“What?”
“I’m not that amazing at timing. Even if it seemed it before. I need to make sure I take you out somewhere where you can’t turn into some character out of a teenage trilogy.”
“So you took me out to a sport where there are dangerous blades attached to my feet and if I fall over they can slice my fingers off?”
“I didn’t say I’d thought it all the way through.”
“I don’t think you thought anything through at all. We could’ve gone to the cinema and been nowhere near fire. And there would’ve been a spotlight.”
Harry laughed before skating away from her. She took a deep breath before following him. She was slowly gaining some grace in her movements. She looked around and saw people laughing gaily and watched a guy try to show off before falling on his bum.
“Anyway, we need to go somewhere that’ll keep the heat down.”
She hadn’t heard Harry skate up behind her.
“That’s why you took me ice skating? We could’ve just gone for ice cream.”
“I bet you’re the type of person who buys vanilla and never anything more exciting.”
She pouted playfully.
“Because I want to figure out why you brought me ice skating? Anyway, there’s plenty of exciting things that are vanilla.”
He skated away and she immediately followed after him, feeling completely confident now that she’d moved about a bit and that Harry had made her smile. She followed him around the rink, laughing at his antics. He looked beautiful when his face was lit by the moon.
“Have you seen them?”
“Seen who?”
He pointed at a couple who were obviously a lot more experienced than everyone else at the rink.
“Shows what talent and probably a whole load of practice can do.”
“We should try. It’ll be fun.”
She nearly fell over, so suddenly turning to look at him.
“No. No way whatsoever.”
“I’m sure it’ll be fine.”
“That’s what they all say. You’ve got the girl where you want her. Why mess it up by injuring her and stopping anything else happening?”
He smirk made her cheeks slowly turn rosy.
“We’ll be fine.”
“No, Harry!”
But he was pulling her and the next thing she knew she was on the floor.
“Are you okay?”
People were rushing towards them shouting but she just wanted to check Harry was okay.
“Harry?”
“Ana!”
He was fine but lying quite a way off.
“Are you alright, Miss?”
“My foot.”
She could feel shooting pains through her foot and ankle. She bit her lip to distract herself but soon tasted blood. Eventually she was carried off the ice and too a chair where there was a paramedic to see to them. Harry was sat opposite her but she didn’t want to look at him. He kept apologising but she was fed up. She was taken for x-rays and treated at the local hospital. She made sure she was nowhere near Harry and didn’t even tell him she was leaving when Steven arrived to pick her up. She could’ve killed him if she wasn’t so high on pain killers.
