She lay in her bed staring at the ceiling, her body tender with the endings of sweat leaving her. 

She could still feel the handcuff sinking into her skin from moments earlier in her dream. Her dream of the freedom she thought she would get at last but was wrong. It all felt so wrong, but this was better, it had to be.

She was without him, and she was without the room she had been trapped in for most of her life. The memories he no longer had still haunted her no matter how hard she tried to keep them out. Everything he had taught her still imprinted in her mind.

Her life had been nothing but fighting on an endless cycle, and she knew she would never be free from them. From the noose hooked around her neck since the day she was born.

Even if the world didn't know she existed, she had learned enough to know that the world would never accept her; it would never let her walk freely without a knife strapped to her thigh.

And yet her most comforting dreams scared her, for it would never be possible and freedom would never come.
