Michael Bublé - Feeling Good
Chris watched as the first drops of snow hit the mansion's grounds from his large bedroom window. He loved snow, but hated the cold winters since the mansion always had a chilly atmosphere. His master and her twin couldn't feel the cold, so they never realize the bitter chill until Chris is shivering. At least his hard work in the gardens would pay off, he thought as he wrapped his grey trench coat closed. He made his way down the grand black and gold staircase, to see the master's twin sword fighting a knight armor statue in the large entrance hall.
Her eyes were glowing a bright red as the statue moved. Her pearly white fangs revealed themselves as she smiled during the light sparring session. "I thought Aya said no more sword fighting in the house," Chris reminded the girl, distracting her.
The statue clattered to the ground in pieces as the girl's eyes returned to a greyish blue. She flinched at the loud noise, looking around to see if her twin would appear. "She's busy with the mayor in her office." The girl turned back to the dismantled statue, raising her left palm towards the ceiling, making the armor return to one piece and it took its rightful place on the empty stone pedestal by the large double doors. "It's your off day, Chris, why are you not tucked away in the library like usual," she asked, her head tilting slightly. Some of her short black hair fell in front of her face at the gesture.
Chris bit his lip while he thought of an answer. He never liked asking this question, but sometimes it was necessary. "I was wondering, Kimi, if I could go out?"
"Like to the gardens or the pool? I wouldn't go to the pool since it has started to snow. You whine about the cold all the time," Kimi started to ramble, missing the meaning of Chris's question.
"No, I mean leave the mansion grounds."
Kimi's pink lips formed an O shape and Chris prepared himself for rejection. "What for," was the surprising answer he got. He forgot Kimi was more curious than Master Aya.
"We're almost out of human food and toiletries."
"Me and Aya get those on our own, why would you need to do it?"
He had a suspicion Kimi already knew the answer to her own question. They had known each other long enough to notice the other's nonverbal quirks. Kimi's eyes darted around the hall, looking at anything but Chris. It was her way of showing guilt and Chris knew she had to say no. He figured out that she wanted him to back out himself, so she didn't have to. That wasn't going to happen today, unfortunately. "I also want to see the town and see what's going on. The magazines and TV aren't the same as going out myself."
Kimi sighed. "You know Aya won't allow it."
"Allow what," a stern voice said a couple of feet behind Kimi, making her and Chris jump. Neither had noticed the poof of black smoke that formed the pale girl. The only sign of her recent transformation was the red glow of her eyes quickly fading to an icy blue.
"Aya," Kimi shouted in her surprise, backing up subconsciously. Somehow she felt like she was in trouble instead of Chris. "Is the meeting with the mayor over so soon?"
The short girl glanced between her twin and Chris, her arms crossed over her chest. Even Chris had to admit she was beautiful, despite not swinging that way. Her long black hair was pulled into a bun with a red rose pinned through it. She wore a long black dress that hugged her hips and arms, slightly showing off her muscles. The V-neck collar dipped right under her breast, showing off her pale skin. Chris told her she looked like Morticia Addams, but the reference fell short to his embarrassment.
"He should be down soon. He only wanted to discuss our forbiddance from abducting tourists coming in for the festival tonight." The two's nervousness distracted her from the topic. "What's goin-"
"There you are Miss Lane," the mayor's booming voice echoed through the hall from the top of the stairs. Everyone turned towards him, Kimi and Chris thankful for the distraction. "You just poofed and I had to find my way downstairs."
"My apologies," Aya lied through her teeth. She couldn't care less about the mayor or his lack of direction. "I sensed something was going on between my feeder and sister that needed my attention."
The mayor fixed Chris with a guilty frown like he did every time he saw him. "Right, well I shall take my leave then. Maybe I'll see you enjoying the festival tonight?" It was an invitation out of being polite.
Aya knew the mayor would prefer if her kind wouldn't interfere with the humans festivities. She shook her head. "The winter festival was never my idea of fun, maybe next year," she answered like she did with every invitation he extended out to her.
The mayor nodded and put on his brown top hat. "Very well then. Have a great day you three." With that he took his leave, the large wooden door closing behind him without anyone touching it. Aya's doing no doubt, Chris thought.
"Care to explain what you two were discussing before I showed up," Aya asked and the two shared a look.
Chris sighed. He promised he wouldn't back down today. "I was wondering if I could leave the grounds for a couple of hours."
"No." Her answer was blunt and left no room for objection, but Chris couldn't let it go.
"Please Master Aya," he begged using her proper title, "it has been years since I last went out." He put on his best puppy dog face, but Aya just kept her expressionless stare on the two. However, he wasn't really aiming for Aya.
Kimi's brow furrowed as she looked at Chris. "Come on, Aya, it has been years," she argued for Chris. "Humans are social creatures and it keeps them sane."
"He has us. Would you like a pet too," she offered, though the two weren't sure if Aya was actually being serious.
"Or you can let him out for one night. There's the festival, people would be too busy to pay attention to one man. He can get all his social endeavors out for the next few years."
Aya didn't say anything, which was a sign that she was mulling it over instead of out right rejecting them again. Chris couldn't help but get his hopes up in the silence. "Fine," she finally said, making Chris shout out a 'yes.' "But there will be some conditions."
Chris probably should have contained his excitement for a few more seconds. "No talking to anyone while we're out. You are there to observe, not participate."
"While we're out," Kimi repeated, her own eyes sparkling with joy.
"Yes, I assume you would like to go to the festival as well," Aya clarified, "and I can't send Chris out alone. All of us will be going. We leave at 7." With that, Aya disappeared into a cloud of black smoke.
