Karla had a rough week. School isn't getting any easier, and her boss was adding to her shifts to make up for the time she had to take off. Granted, her mother was sick again and she had to fly back home, but this was just nonsense. She'd only been studying two years in NTU, full of hard work, she just wanted to teach.
So it was no surprise that when Friday night came, she'd be sitting at the bar, alone with what would be her third drink of the night. Thank God for strong alcohol.
"You good there, love?" The bartender asked her as he placed the blue drink on the wooden bar top. Karla simply nodded and quickly swallowed down the drink as it burned down her throat.
She heard someone sitting next to her and order a beer in a thick British accent. "And get this lady a water, please."
"Right away, Tom," The bartender rushed to get this man his drinks and so Karla turned to take a look.
Maybe it was because she was starting to feel the alcohol in her system, or maybe it was because she'd had a rough week and this man was hot, but she smiled at him and to her surprise, he smiled back.
"A beer, and water for the lady..." the bartender stated as he placed both drinks in front of them. Karla just looked at the man with a raised eyebrow.
"You should stay hydrated, you've had three drinks in only half an hour."
"Were you watching me?" Karla asked chuckling now.
"Why do you think I came to sit here?" He told her politely as he took a long gulp of his beer.
"You don't seem to be taking it easy either," she retorted back.
"Rough day at work," he said simply as he set his drink down and looked towards the girl. Despite his dark, chestnut hair, his eyes were a glowing blue.
"Been there," Karla answered him as she took a sip of the cold water, instantly feeling better. "Tough boss?"
"Not exactly... just a... tough hit," he whispered to himself as he touched his jaw. Karla looked over at him then extended her hand.
"My name is Karla, what's yours?"
Tom thought for a moment... well either this girl has been living under a rock for the past few years or she just wasn't into movies. "I'm Tom."
They talked for a while, two hours at least! And at the end of the night, when Tom made sure that Karla had a safe way to get home, he asked her for her number. He enjoyed talking to this girl, and she wasn't so bad on the eyes either. Orange-red hair and soft chestnut eyes. And he really hoped that things would turn out well between both of them.
He couldn't wait to text her, so only the next day, he pulled out his phone, typed in her number and went for it.
Tom: Hey, this is Tom
Tom: From the bar yesterday?
Tom: Just making sure you didn't give me a fake number
