Fire was burning fiercely around her as her mother was carrying her out of her room. Audrey clenched her stuffed cat while tear's streamed like rivers down her face. Her mom looked frantically around them for an exit. A loud crash came from behind them as her mother ran towards a window where the fire hadn't yet reached. She opened the window and pushed the screen out. Her mother then sat her down outside the window, then jumping out herself. "I thought we had time to pack and leave before they came..." Audrey's mom murmured. Then Audrey finally spoke up, "M-mommy, what's going on? What happened to the house?" Audrey silently waited for her mother's response as her mom picked her up and took her behind a bush as if they needed to hide. Then her mom finally responded, "You need to run. Your aunt doesn't live far. I called her and she said she will get you down the road. Please hurry." Tears seemed to have become waterfalls down Audreys Face. "B-but mommy! What about you? I-I don't want to leave you!" "It will be okay Audrey. Your Aunt Rosy will-" Just then, a gunshot silenced Audrey and her mom. Blood started to soak Audreys mom's shoulder. Her mom screamed in just seconds after. "M-mommy!" Audrey said, as she jumped up. "R-run. Please Audrey. I-i'll be fine..." Her mother croaked. Audrey squeezed her toy cat and started running. Just as she stopped to rest a couple houses down, she heard another gunshot, followed by the screams of agony of her mother. "I love you mommy," Audrey whispered before she started running again.
As Audrey Got farther down the road, a firetruck passed her. Then an ambulance. Audrey silently hoped that it wasn't too late for her mom, and that they could help her. Then she realized a woman was running towards her. Audrey froze in place. As the woman stopped just a few inches away she said, "Don't worry, I won't hurt you, I promise. Are you Audrey?" Audrey nodded. The woman grabbed her hand. "Hello Audrey. I am your Aunt Rosy. We have to go fast ok? It's not safe here," she said in a gentle voice. Audreys bright green eyes examined her aunt. Then tears again started to stream down her face. "W-what about mommy? We c-c-can't just leave her!" Audrey said. Then her Aunt Rosy replied, "I'm afraid we are going to have to leave my sister behind. There is nothing we can do. But please Audrey, you are not safe. We have to go. My house is just in the next neighborhood. I can carry you if you'd like?" Audrey didn't want to leave her mom, but she was scared about what could happen if she went back. "O-ok" Audrey had finally said while wiping the tears off her face. Her Aunt Rosy proceeded to pick her up and started walking.
After a few minutes, Rosy said, "So, Audrey, is there anything you liked to do with your mom?" Audry was silent for a second, then replied, "I-I liked to play with my dolls with mommy." Rosy processed what Audrey said, then replying, "You know your mommy and I played dolls a lot when we were little. She always loved when our mommy and daddy played along." Audrey responded, "I never knew my daddy. Mommy never wanted to talk about him either. Do you know anything about my daddy?" Audreys Aunt Rosy didn't respond. Audrey was always curious about her father. She has always dreamed of him being nice and loving like her mommy, and that one day he would come through the front door, and give her a big hug. Audrey sighed, "Why won't anyone tell me about daddy?" After a couple of minutes of silence, Rosy sighed,"Lets just say that your father wasn't a very good man Audrey." for the rest of the way, they were silent. When they came close to a house, Aunt Rosy stopped and looked around for a second, then continued. When they finally reached the house, she let out a sigh of relief and looked down to Audrey with a kind smile, "Welcome, Audrey, to your new home."
