Taylor knew better than to be here at her ex's house a day before the "Kloss-Garnn" wedding, but yet here she was.
Toni had gone off to her friend's house for the day because her and Karlie were going to do the traditional "no seeing the bride till the wedding" type of thing, cliche as it was.
Taylor knocked three times on the door, it was something only her and Karlie did when they were in a relationship to signify it was them, it had a type of rhythm, a unique knock.
But Taylor's nerves got the best of her and it didn't sound as it always had, since her hand kept shaking and was super unsteady.
Karlie was laying on the couch, looking at an ugly painting Toni had put up because it was "artistic and eye-catching" but all Karlie saw was a bunch of shapes. It looked like they splashed paint on it and called it a masterpiece.
These were the things her and Taylor used to make fun of. Taylor used to say Dibbles could make a better painting if she stepped on paint and put it on paper.
Karlie wondered why she was thinking of her ex-girlfriend a day before she was marrying the "love of her life" but maybe it was just the painting triggering memories of the good old days.
Then she heard it, the three knocks it sounded eerily similar to the one Taylor and her used to do back then. Although it was kind of off beat, so it might've been Toni trying to imitate it since she had seen them do the knock before, but then again Toni was dead set on continuing the tradition of not seeing each other before the wedding.
Karlie decided to go look through the peep hole and saw Taylor looking like she was going to go sprinting the other way.
Taylor did it and she thought to herself, "oh god, I actually did it! Why am I here? She's getting married, she doesn't want me anymore. Maybe if I jumped in the bush she wouldn't notice me, maybe she didn't even hear, I have time. Let me just start runn-".
Right as she was about to make her move the door opened, and there stood her Karlie, green-eyed, giraffe of a woman, her dirty blonde hair slightly messy, in her normal workout attire. But why was Taylor here, Karlie wasn't hers anymore she was Toni's.
Taylor was staring right at Karlie with her royal blue eyes. While Karlie was taking in Taylor's appearance, she was still the same, she'd lost her tan a little, she gotten some curves which suited her really well in Karlie's eyes, she was wearing a coat with a plaid skirt and tights underneath. Her high heels almost making her as tall as Karlie, almost.
Karlie realized she was staring far too long, she scratched the back of her neck, finally comprehending her ex-girlfriend was right in front of her. "Uh, hi?"
"I still love you!" Taylor blurted out. "Shit, shit, shit, ughhhhh, I meant hey." Taylor's face was blazing red out of embarrassment.
Karlie confused in what just happened in the last thirty seconds just mumbles, "I'm getting married."
"I know," Taylor whispers but you could hear the pain, "and I honestly don't know why I'm here because this isn't some sort of movie where I tell you I love you and you'll fall right back into my arms."
"Do you want to come in?" Karlie asks surprised that those words even came out of her. Taylor stunned by the offer just nods her head yes. Upon entering, Joe comes to greet Taylor by sniffing her shoes and begging to get pet.
Taylor bends down and taps his head, "You know, you're one of the few dogs that are acceptable in the world." He nuzzles his head under her hand.
"He missed you," Karlie says quietly, not sure if she's talking about her dog or herself. "He did?" Karlie nods her head.
