{ Irony of the Archons}

Start from the beginning

He was at a loss for words. Unable to talk. You both completely oblivious to the fact that Paimon was desperately still trying to drag him away.
"You-" he broke off his sentence, truly unable to say anything in this heartwarming moment. He smiled to himself. Unable to really say anything, He did the next best thing on his mind.

He leaned in and kissed you.

Your eyes widened as his lips met yours. Your eyes squeezed shut at the display of affection. At the moment, It was like you two were teleported to a whole other dimension. One that starred just the two of you. Time practically stopped at that moment.
Paimons extremely loud squeals were now but completely mute as you melted at his touch.

Something felt so familiar, so nostalgic. Something in your body had missed this, this specific person's touch and affection. Your eyes fluttered open as you looked at his face, his eyes were open as well. The two of you now locked eyes.
You stared into the ocean blue eyes, mesmerized. He smirked against your lips and you could feel him deepening the kiss.
You two soon broke free. You were completely flustered and proceeded to cover your face, now the color of a tomato, with your hands.
He on the other hand only chuckled slightly at your cuteness.

You respond the same as before.
Childe thought, a smile creeping onto his face as he watched you cover your face in embarrassment. He could feel your body emanating embarrassment at this point.
He watched as you slowly separated two fingers to peek at him staring at you, which only made you jolt and cover your face further. He laughed, smiling at you as he did three years back.

Childe hadn't smiled like this in years. After your death, he was traumatized. He never wanted to ever get attached to someone else, and even went as far as to ignore his siblings for a while.
This went on for most of the years that you were dead. He laughed at the ironic situation. Before it was he who comforted you, now it was the exact opposite. He was acting like you from all those years back, sad, but also joyful and happy. A very conflicting set of emotions.
Paimon was still dumbfounded at the situation continued to shriek and whine. You rolled your eyes internally and sighed.
"Go get some food Paimon, and return to our apartment. I'll return soon. Don't worry about me." You threw a bag of Mora at her. You could see her giving you a weird look, but her eyes lit up nonetheless.
"Compensation for this weird situation! Paimon will gladly accept your offer! No take-backs or Paimon will give you a nickname! Make sure to return within 2 days or Paimon will get worried!" She quickly flew away to find a restaurant.

Now you could discuss in private. Your eyes met again, nostalgia hit you once more like a truck. Tears began to well up, as your tears threatening to fall again. But you held them back.
"Do you.... know me?" You asked, still a bit red from earlier.
You could see his brow raise a bit, still keeping his smile.
"Well, you could say that." His response was simple but also full of meaning.
What he said the truth. Nothing but the truth. Whether sad or satisfying. You hadn't really known each other back then. You both just had a mutual love and understanding of each other. It was too majestic to describe in words honestly. It was like you knew them from childhood, but in truth, never knew them at all.
You tilted your head in a manner Childe considered extremely cute. This time he was the one to blush. He quickly waved his hand in the air to distract you, and went back to his playful Demeter.
"You were my wife in your previous life" He stated bluntly, enjoying watching your face fade into a bright red as you panicked and began to stutter.
It truly was extremely comforting to him that his actions, as well as words, still had such a heavy effect on you. He loved it. He adores it.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding. But you were someone very close to me. And I, to you" Childe explained
Your panicking quickly came to a halt as you thought about what he had just said.
Previous life? You thought. Your face slowly fading into a thinking and confused facial expression as you got lost in thought.
"Yes, previous life" The ginger hair man's voice jolted you back to the present as your face was painted with surprise. He chuckled.
"Why the surprise?"
"Do you have mind-reading powers or something?" You questioned, very much intrigued by how he pulled the words from your thoughts.
He leaned in closer and whispered beside your ear,
"Let's just say we got to spend quite some time together"
You shuttered at his suggestive tone and gently pushed him back, using one hand to cover your face once more. Your face now turned into embarrassment mixed with anger as you watched him laugh his face off.
"Y-you are- so not allowed to do that!!"
You stuttered
"Sorry, sorry! Old habits die hard" he said through laughs.
For some reason, this didn't really, truly, bother you. Any other woman would have smacked him a thousand times by now, but for you, you found it endearing. Though, you did want to punch his face in just once for making you so red in the face.

He stopped laughing as his gaze turned back towards you, his eyes darkened a bit. Lingering with regret. He internally prepared for the worst when he asked,

"Would you like to know how you died?"

You were caught off guard. Surely he couldn't be this open so fast? Especially to a reincarnated version of his presumably previous lover?
You nodded, anticipating his answer. Though you quite knew what he was about to say.
He let out a sigh and slowly spoke.
"You were killed by me. Or rather... Willingly sacrificed yourself to save me. The Fatui were after you because they began to suspect us and... The rest is history" you could see him bite his lower lip.

Your gaze went to the floor as your hand grip tightened around your legs. You were willing to give your life for this man, and yet now you couldn't even remember his name. You felt ashamed that you weren't even able to remember the smallest detail about anything. You smiled and tried your best to comfort him for now, "If old me was here, I don't think they would hate you. So I won't either" you gave him a warm smile.

His eyes widened at your words. How could you be so forgiving? He was unable to comprehend your train of thought. If it was him, he wouldn't be able to forgive you or be this trusting. You were a true gem of this world. He loved you so much because of it.
"Old me cared for you so much that I died for you. How could I hate the same person after that?" Your words made complete and utter sense. And he hated that. Why do you have to make so much sense, Ojou-chan? He wanted her to just hate him. So she won't suffer any longer. She won't have to deal with his drama. She could live free, and happy. But she had to cling to a man that was so very bad for her. He didn't deserve her. He truly didn't.
You watched this face once again twist into sadness as he thought about the past. You let out an internal sigh. Your gaze eased as you stared at him. Your mouth moved on its own, seemingly tired of all the stalling.

"My happiness lies with you. My past self obviously thought that. Don't look down upon yourself too much, everyone deserves love. And my past self just so happened to pick you from the crowd."

He chuckled to himself. So understanding, so inhuman. So incredibly accurate, even he wasn't able to rebuttal with it.

As you stared into his eyes, something inside of your brain clicked. A light bulb lit up, something deep down inside of you was desperately trying to say something. So, you follow your instincts and prayed to the archons that you wouldn't say something stupid.

"You're... Childe... Right?"
