Chapter 1

we found each other
I helped you out of a broken place
you gave me comfort
but falling for you was my mistake

'I don't think we should be together anymore.'

So... casually. No sugarcoating.

Oh, he didn't like how calm she was about it. As if she couldn't make herself care anymore. As if she didn't just throw away last eleven months of their lives into the trash. As if she didn't just break his heart into millions of pieces.

The truth is, Finn never expected her to become so important. Something that started only as a rebound, a distraction, a night of a meaningless sex turned into a relationship none of them really felt ready for.

Since the very beginning there has always been something more between them, there was no use in denying that. They never did anything about it, though, the years of unedescribable tension, accidental touches and the atmosphere shifting constantly became something natural, something they barely even noticed anymore. The timing was just never right, they both were in relationships anyway, more happy or less.

Until the stars aligned. Until they were in the same city, at the same place at the same time, both single, so damn hurt and lonely, in need of someone to talk to, a shoulder to cry on, a comfort from a friend. From someone who wouldn't judge, someone who they've known since they were kids.

They found each other that night.

A long conversation, a few hours of talking. A hug, a warmth, sudden realization how close their faces were, only a few inches apart. An unexpected kiss, soft and hesitant, one that was only supposed to bring them comfort, nothing more than that. Then another one happened, deeper, more serious, things escalating quickly, their lips moving with much more passion and confidence. Impatient hands, her fingers ripping off the buttons of his shirt. Her dress falling on the floor. His hungry eyes taking her in as if she was the most beautiful, the hottest thing he'd ever seen in his life.

It was the last moment when they still could pretend that nothing happened. Nothing has changed yet. They still could stop.

But neither of them wanted to.

The years of waiting and repressed feelings finally had led them to this... It was way too late for "Are you sure?" or "Should we?". Only mere seconds later her back hit the bed and he climbed on top of her, his weight pinning her down to the mattress. His lips, his hands were everywhere, yet it still felt like not enough.

No more thinking. No calculation. No regrets.

No strings attached.

Their bodies moved together, their chests heaving with shallow breaths and desperate gasps. Her moans filling the air, the way she cried out his name, over and over, the sound he didn't think he'd get addicted to so easily. Her nails ripping into his shoulders. His fingers digging into her skin, so hard she whimpered into the crook of his neck, the pleasure and pain so intense, the overload of sensations almost too much to bear. Heaven and hell. The years of built-up frustration, need and desire finally finding the release.

'You don't mean it.'

'I do. It's over.' Millie stated, her voice sounding more certain this time. 'For good.'

After, he was falling asleep with her even breathing as a lullaby, her heartbeat slowly becoming his favorite sound, the sound he knew already he would never get tired of hearing. A short, strange thought appeared in his mind before he drifted off to sleep, overwhelmed with emotions he's never felt, thinking that he could actually get used to it, deep down hoping it wouldn't be the last time.
