~Not Even At the Starting Line~

" Oh I'm Y/n, Y/n L/n" You said a little too loudly, but what can you say his enthusiasm was rubbing off on you.

"Y/n?!" You heard a familiar voice say. You turned to see the blonde you notice earlier approaching you cautiously, but with the same gentle smile on his face.

"KURAPIKA!" You cheered as you ran into his out stretched arms. Suddenly, you remembered the promise and quickly pushed him away. "Where have you been? I've waiting for years to see you and Pairo! You promised you'd visit." You said pouting and you poked his chest jokingly. You looked up to meet his grief stricken face.

"Yes, about that, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, its just things came up that took up all of my time. but I did want to visit. I wanted me, you a Pairo to hang out together like old times, but it was impossible to..." His voice trailed off.

You hugged him and forgave him. You decided not to pry because you know that he would tell you when he was ready to. Whatever is was, it clearly bothered him a lot and you didn't want to force him to talk, you an be patient, you always have. You decided to leave Kurapika alone for a while, for he seemed in desperate need of some time to think and you hung out with Gon.

You two explored the ship and talked to many people, until Gon started to sense a storm coming. You looked up at the sky and saw not a cloud in it. You didn't understand how Gon could tell there was a storm coming, but you trusted him. You advised him to warn the captain.

Just as Gon bad predicted, a few hours later, there was a massive storm. The ship rocked to the east and to the west, the waves roared and were the sizes of mountains. The small and frail ship did t stand a chance,yet the crazy captain sailed head first into the storm. All the applicants were cramped into a room below deck. You and Gon ran back and forth helping those who felt sick.

"Here sir, sit up and drink this." You said handing an applicant some tea with herbs that would help the nausea to subside. You scanned the room and were amazed by how the aura of the room had drastically changed from when you first boarded the ship. The people who were going out of their way to intimidate others, were now just as hunched over and terror filled as the people they'd tried to terrify. Your eyes continued around the room until you saw a man in maybe his late 20s, early 30s reading some perverted magazine with a blush on his face...'Creep'. You thought to yourself. Next you saw Kurapika calmly reading in a hammock, ignoring all going on around him and immersed in his book. He looked so cute when he read. He always had a slight smile on his face when he did, your staring as he looked towards you, and smiled. You quickly went back to helping Gon take care of the other applicants and you blushed furiously. You didn't realize you had been staring at him until he smiled at you. His smile got you every time, even after years of not seeing him it still melts your heart just as it did then, if not more now...

The captain called the four of you to where he was. He was surprised that only 4 out of the many in the ship, were able to handle the storm. He next asked us for our names.

"I'm Gon!" Said Gon very enthusiastically.

"Y/n" you say smiling towards the captain, "nice to meet you." He nodded in agreement towards you.

"Kurapika" he said as he bowed but looked at the captain with an unreadable poker face.

The perverted man from earlier introduced himself as Leorio.

Next, the captain asked for our reasons for being a hunter.

"I'm looking for my dad." Said Gon, "I wanna find out what's so important to him about being a hunter, that he'd choose being one over me." Gon said with not even a hint of sorrow. You looked at him in sympathy as you wrapped a reassuring arm around his shoulders. He returned the comforting gesture by hugging your waist and looking up to you with a cute, innocent smile. You smiled back then let go. If Gon's gonna be honest, I will too. "I wanna become blacklist hunter and take down bad guys like my parents did. I wanna take pride in bringing criminals to justice, just like my parents." You say proudly.
