This book has 4 book trilogy series, published in an actual book and Ebook, and was on Episode the game app. This story is a romance with some comedy and a bit of deep stuff but not much. There's only one sex scene in the entire book so it's not full of smut.
Basically it's about a cliche romance about a bad boy who pulled pranks/being mean and bullying a girl that he's into since childhood, he came home from Military school as a changed guy and then in the end gets the girl he wants. The girl being a good girl and got bullied for being fat then got skinny as a teen and in the end gets the bad boy that she falls in love with.
Then there's a mean girl that used to be bffs with the protagonist and had a crush on the bad boy but settled for his step brother since the good girl had a crush on him. They broke up and the step brother realized that the good girl is what he wants but failed and isn't a bad guy to ruin a relationship between the bad boy and good girl.
So the main couple who is Tessa/Cole I'm going to say it that they are kinda unhealthy and have toxic moments so they aren't my favorite ship. He used to bully her as a child to the point she would go to the ER with broken bones, that the doctors knows her name by heart. But is a changed guy when he got back and wasn't a complete ass, due to him beating up this guy who pretty much tried to molest Tessa. So ok giving him a second chance sounds reasonable and hopefully when they get together it wouldn't be as bad. Wrong! They have cute moments and banter but they are pretty much dependent on each other, heck Tessa freaked out when Cole hasn't text her for a day or so. I was hoping they would take a break so then in the second book they can be independent and grow up into separate adults and maybe go into friendships and see if it can be something more or not. But nope that's out of the window.
Cole gets very possessive and jealous as fuck when guys and his brother are nearby her just talking and nothing is going on. They have horrible communication skills that they should go to therapy for. Tessa has abandonment issues and got mad at him for disappearing again she should go to therapy for that. He also can be a bit controlling her telling her what to do at times and it's just a big fat rollercoaster of emotions. When he was drunk and she told him to not be like this, he was like I would stop drinking if I get another chance it's like wtf! So he can be a bit manipulative at times. I'm glad he hasn't pressured her into sex and respect her boundaries when she wasn't ready so that's one good thing about him. If this was a real life relationship I would suggest therapy individual and couple and if not then to end it.
Cole-He has his sweet moments like I mentioned from above and cared about her not eating and doesn't care if she's fat or not. His cute nickname for her which is Shortcake is cute. But he has anger management issues that needs to be resolved, punching this one guy to the point the guy was bloody and had to be taken to the hospital. If this was real life he probably would get charged and go into jail or something. He sucks at communication and used to be a bully (I don't care if it was unintentional you just stop once someone gets injured). For me I rate his character a 3/5.
Tessa-She used to be fat and lost weight. Finally can stick up for herself at times. Has dysfunctional family who aren't perfect and was bullied. So I can see myself in her at times, but she can be a bit weak and annoying when it comes to Cole and her relationship. I personally think she needs to go get help with her issues as well and she also sucks at communication at times. She doesn't get as jealous often and only do it when she needs to be and is justified. I just wished she ended up single for a bit so she can grow as a character on her own. So I rate her character a 3/5
Travis-Tessa's older brother and Beth's boyfriend. In the beginning he had an alcohol problem etc but he overcame that and started being a really good big brother to Tessa. Overall I rate him a 4/5
Beth-Best friend to Tessa and Travis's girlfriend. She's a goth and overall a good character who also has some issues but overcame that with therapy. Rate her a 4/5
Jay-Cole's step brother and Tessa's old crush. He isn't perfect by going out with Tessa's ex bff and knew what she did to Tessa but after they broke up he wasn't as bad of a character as I thought. I was hoping for a love triangle though. So I rate him a 4/5
Nicole-Tessa's ex BFF and Jay's ex girlfriend. She's the worst for being a crappy BFF to find out she only was Tessa's friend due to having a crush on Cole. Hiring a guy to scare Tessa into molesting her etc. In the end she kinda apologized and is trying to get info on this girl who is a compulsive liar and obsessed with Cole. So I still rate her a 0/5 just cause of letting a guy to try to molest Tessa. If she never did that I would rate her a 1.
Megan-Tessa's and Beth's best friend. She isn't the worst but isn't the best. She's kinda forgotten a bit on my part so I'm going to give her a 4/5.
That's all the characters I can think of right now. Overall I rate the story a 3/5 it has comedy, some deep things I can relate to and was just hoping for maybe the main couple to take a break so they wouldn't be dependent on each other and other things. I'm not going to read the other books in the series cause I find that book 1 is a perfect ending for my taste. Plus I don't think I can handle more of Cole/Tessa's confusing love story cause no offence I'm just not into that ship.
