Astrid hated work. She hated the people she worked with. She hated the music that played over the loud speaker. She hated the people who came into the store for there daily needs. Astrid even hated the simple floor tiles that were plastered on the floor. She hated everything and everyone in the wretched general store. Well, everyone except for Lucas.

Lucas was a six foot tall male, with hair that looked like fire. Brown at the roots, then red, yellow, and orange mixed together at the tips. Despite how Lucas looked, broad and handsome, he was extremely shy and awkward, until you got to know him. When Astrid had first met Lucas, he was not able to get more then two words out of his mouth.

Now, on the third of July, Lucas and Astrid sat in the candy aisle eating jelly beans and M & M's out of the bulk containers. "Blue jelly beans taste better then all other jelly beans." Astrid commented, popping five blue jelly beans into her mouth. "And if you want to fight me on this, you'll lose."

"Ha! Wrong! The orange ones taste way better then the blue ones."

"Dude what did I just say?" Astrid throws a jelly bean at Lucas.

He bats it away with his hand. Silence settles upon them as they both eat jelly beans. Again Lucas speaks up. "Hey, can you pass me some of the pretzel M & M's? I have never tasted them." Lucas holds out the hand of his that is not holding jelly beans. I set some pretzel M & M's in his hand. "Danke."

"I cannot believe we have pretzel M & M's in bulk." A quizzical look comes across Astrid's face. "How long do you think it will take Jake or Maggie to find us?" Lucas shrugs, shoving more candy into his mouth. "You know what?" Astrid sits up slightly and looks around aisle three. Lucas makes a small grunting sound as if to ask 'what?'. "I am truly surprised that, in the past thirty minutes, no one has come through the candy aisle. I mean, tomorrow is the fourth of July. Usually people make s'mores or, you know, they eat junk. And candy, is junk." Astrid shrugs then shoves more blue jelly beans into her mouth. "I still think blue jelly beans are the best kind of jelly beans there are."

Lucas laughs. "Your tongue is blue."

Before either of them are able to say anything more, an angry voice cuts through the aisle. "Well I think the best jelly beans are the ones that get shoved up your guys's asses." Jake, one of the two managers, says.

"That doesn't even make sense." Lucas comments. Astrid laughs next to him queitly.

Jake gives us a stone cold glare. "Just get your asses off the floor and get back to work!"

Together, Lucas and Astrid get up. "Yes ma'am." Before Jake can comment, Lucas and Astrid run towards the front of the store.
