Chapter Thirty One:

The luminous of the light recedes, it fades away slowly as if being sucked out of the room. Golden circles take over my vision affected by the unnatural glow; I blink several times to rid them from my sight. The overwhelming impression Raziel resonates with continues to circulate through my veins. The sensations are powerful, but as I regain my full focus, I push against the intense vibrations.

If I ever want to experience such forceful emotions, it'll be at my own accord.

The first thing I hear is Tristan's heavy breathing across the room; the frenetic panting has me wondering if he's in shock. Lifting my head, I clench my jaw and face Raziel; my shoulders tighten as memories of this immortal resurface. Tristan stands beside him, looking so fragile and diminutive compared to this heavenly creature, his robes like a blanket of serenity and assurance.

"I never thought I'd see you again," Tristan whispers, breathless.

I roll my eyes with exasperation.

"Tristan," Raziel greets, his tone like syrup. "You are looking well."

A soft pink tint coats his cheeks. "Thank you...For everything."

"It has been my pleasure." His golden eyes coruscate.

"Okay, enough," I interrupt waspishly. "I hope you're here to give us some answers."

Raziel lightly pats Tristan's shoulder—whose face turn an even darker shade of burgundy—and then he sets his composed gaze on me. The soft hue silently echoing from his translucent skin has me temporarily dazed, and I feel the lines across my forehead relax. As he begins to speak, I thrust myself out of the trance.

"Indeed I am, Kade. I am sure you have several inquiries, to which I am happy to answer. I was not intending on seeing you both again until your destinies were complete, but it seems there has been a change in the circumstances, one that I had not predicted."

"You're predicting our lives now?"

He nods, entirely composed. "That is what I do; I foresee the future, although the future is not always accurate. For instances such as this, I had not seen Tristan confronting you about your commonalities—at least not this early on."

Tristan stutters, his shoulders shrinking. "Was that against the rules?"

"It is quite alright," Raziel soothes. "Please, do not be in distress—it was my error."

I notice the glowing rich shade of light around his ten-foot figure brighten for a brief moment, and as I look towards Tristan, I recognise the sedative look in his glazed-over eyes. As Tristan eagerly bathes in the ethereal lull of tranquillity, Raziel turns to me once again; his robes swirling around his feet like the subtle waves of an ocean. With his acute attention on me, I take a step forward.

"This is your plan. Why Melrose Cove? Why send us both here?"

"It was planned, you are correct." Raziel is unaffected by my forceful tone. "However, it's not how it may seem—I did not choose you both on purpose, in fact, the reason for this town is more so to do with your soul mates."

"Great," I spit dryly, "so this is about their happiness, not ours?"

He shakes his head, his golden hair barely sways with the movement. "This is about all of your happiness. I discovered your soul mates before I even knew Tristan and yourself existed. I did not know who their soul mates were until you arrived in my meadow. When I realised you were both so similar to the man I once was, I knew I had my chance to make past mistakes right and forge the connections with your soul mates."
