chapter 2

tinas pov:

"pleasssseeee?"

"i said no ella" i replied

for the past 30 minutes ella, my childhood best friend, had been begging me to go to the town's festival that only happens once every year

it's a very popular festival

people from even out of town go visit the festival

"you say no every year!" ella cried out throwing a pillow at my head

i rolled my eyes at ella

we were in my room

and supposed to be studying for the final exams before the end of the year

and these exams are 40% of all grades

pretty serious

"i say no every year for a reason"

"and what exactly is that reason?" ella waited for my reply only to receive a shrug from me

"see! you don't even know why you're saying no. oh wait, i know why!"

ella inhaled loudly before yelling out "let me guess..your nervous about going out!"

i looked at ella blankly while clapping my hands "great you caught me, fantastic job stating the obvious!" i said unenthusiastically

"come on tina i really think we should go..you know since i'll be gone all summer.." ella said sadly

her parents are having her go to her grandparents house out in the swamp for the summer

ella hadn't seen her grandparents in years

and she had some pretty bad grades this year so far

so yeah in a way it's also her punishment

i glanced at ella

she had her head down and looked pretty sad

i rolled my eyes knowing the whole sadness act was just to guilt trip me into going to that dumb festival

"fine i'll go with you" i groaned out

she jumped at me giving the biggest hug ever

"thank you!" ella said before burping in my face

"eww!" i screeched out kicking her off of my bed making her landing harshly on the wooden floor of my bedroom

ella groaned from the impact outloud

i let out a small chuckle before throwing a pillow at her face

me and ella had been best friends for years

since i moved in to be exact

which was when i was 8

our physical looks are just as different as our personalities

ella is white and has pale skin and dark brown straight hair

her eyes are blue and she also has freckles

my looks on the other hand is the complete opposite

i am black and i have darker skin with long kinky hair

my eyes are light brown and i have a few spots of beauty marks ranged across my face

both very ethnically contrasted with very different personalities

ella had always been the talkative person

because of her decent social skills she has dated quite a few guys in our school

although i am not a very talkative person at all and i have never been in a relationship

me and ella have had a strong connection throughout the years

making ella

my only true friend
