Insubstantial

Once I tried
To read between the lines,
But I guess
There was nothing to read;
Just a blank book.

Maybe once
I tried to steal your heart,
But I guess it was so insubstantial
That my fingers slipped right past
And moved on.

This was a short, quick-written poem.  So, to fill space, I'll just drop in a fun fact since this is my first love poem (yippee):
Osculate is a fancy, formal way to say kiss.  It's the kind of word you'd expect old-timey authors to use- all formal, and that, but it's actually meant to be humorous.
For you math freaks out there, because I am NOT one of you, it's also a mathematical term for curves and all that fun parabolic stuff.  Any genius care to elaborate for me?
