It so happens that a sudden rain suspended the hunting competition between Obelia and Arlanta. The delegates and onlookers went in tents and socialized while they waited for the undesirable weather to pass.

Princess Athanasia had just left the tent of the old nobles who were fighting over whether Arlanta's prince, Prince Dice, would be a suitable marriage partner for her. She was only 17 at the time, and was relieved to know that no such rule exists in Obelia that women must marry once they're of age.

Felix was the only one with the princess at first, holding up the umbrella for her. While they were walking, intent on visiting another tent, her shoes slipped off of her feet and she found herself standing in the mud with only her socks on. Apparently, due to the rain, the ground went damp and soft, getting her shoes stuck.

Ezekiel was nearby and saw what happened. He offered to help Athanasia put her shoes back on. Though it was embarrassing, she had no choice but to accept since Felix was holding the umbrella and couldn't do it for her.

Ezekiel came to me and bent one knee.

"Wait. There's dirt on it."

"It's okay."

I just wanted to wear my shoes back and go, but now I even have Ezekiel bowed down while putting it on me

I just wanted to wear my shoes back and go, but now I even have Ezekiel bowed down while putting it on me.

We're now both under the umbrella that Felix was holding, but Ezekiel's hair was already wet. I looked down at him silently.
