T H E NMOM, Caroline, and I were down at the beach for the afternoon. Mom was using this time to catch up on her novel and tan while I was stuck making sure Callie didn't swim too far into the ocean. I wore a pretty pink bikini and shorts, I wasn't as pale as when the summer had just begun. Callie was building sandcastles for the little snails she found along the shore. Her blonde curls were tied up in pigtails and her rosy cheeks dusted with sand.
I missed hanging out with my mom and doing normal things like this, I missed talking to her and knowing her as a person and not just my mother. But she was always busy, just like dad, always too busy for me. I gazed out at the sea, I used to think that the sea was called the sea because it went as far as the human eye could see. I always found comfort in it, whenever I was feeling lost or angry at the world I always knew that I could find solace in the sea.
