I walked into school that Monday, scanning the crowds for Yamaguchi. As stupid as it sounded, I had hardly gotten any sleep the previous night due to my excitement of seeing him again. All weekend I had stressed over how I'd wear my hair or what conversation starters I could use.

Luckily, it seemed to be worth the wait.

School had ended already, I had hardly spoken to him all day. I couldn't say I wasn't disappointed. However, the small glances we shot each other from across the room made my cheeks hot and my heart race. Waiting until after school to talk to him would be well worth the wait.

Once the final bell rang I nearly sprang from my seat.

"Calm down there, you might get whiplash," I heard Eiko say from her seat in front of me.

"Hush up." I waved a hand at her. "I know how badly you want to go talk to Tanaka. So what are you still doing here?"

Eiko rose from her seat with a repressed grin on her face. She held out a fist. "May the best woman win."

I didn't hesitate to fist bump her with a determined nod.

Eiko left the room and Yamaguchi appeared beside me. "What did she mean by 'may the best woman win'?" he asked.

"Eiko and I have a bet," I told him.

"Ohh, on what?" He asked again.

I tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, my heart now racing for a completely new reason. "Chiyo likes Hinata and we have a bet on how long it'll take him to realize."

Yamaguchi laughed. "How do you bet on something like that?"

"Well, Eiko thinks that Chiyo will eventually man up and tell him," I lied smoother than I could've hoped for. It almost made me feel a little guilty. "But don't think she will."

"How much money do you have on it?" He questioned.

"Ten dollars," I told him. "But we were thinking of raising the stakes since it's already been going on for a week or so. Which is a new record for Chiyo, she usually switches crushes by now."
