Well this just got awkward...

Knocking on the door to the villa Cat walked in like she owned the place, Lena and I following her. I wasn't ready for this, they were going to see through this act of mine and Lena's in a heartbeat and then everything for Lena is going to be ruined. Agreeing to come to this lunch so quickly was a bad idea, we should just stay away from them until tomorrow when we have the 'bachelorette' party or whatever it was in the afternoon.

"Kara, are you okay?" Lena put a hand on my arm as she frowned.

I shook my head, "I don't know if I can do this." I bit my lip as Lena looked over her shoulder to where Cat had already disappeared through to the back. "What if they realise we're lying?"

Turning back to me, Lena smiled. "Then they know I brought my best friend to a wedding they all know I couldn't miss without serious social damage I have worked so hard to repair. But... that isn't going to happen because you Kara, you are my hero." Laughing, I ducked my head and looked up to see her still smiling at me. Butterflies erupted in my stomach as she started chuckling with me, stepping back to drag me with her through the rest of the villa.

"You are incredibly cheesy, you know that?" I don't know when, but Lena's hand had reached for mine and not let go as we made it to the patio.

"I know but you make it easy." With one last smile at me, Lena turned to the patio as everyone came into view around a table.

Cat was already drinking something that was not water, Beth was whispering in Jack's ear - I won't lie, part of me wanted to listen but I didn't - and Jack was laughing. Whatever was going on, it didn't look like Cat was having any fun, that was until she spotted us and smiled.

"About time, I thought I lost you two walking back here." Ducking me head again, I let Lena pull me to our seats, her hand only dropping mine when we had to pull our chairs out and sit down.

"We were just talking. Hi Jack, Beth. It's lovely to see you and thank you for the invite this week, Hawaii is beautiful." Lena was all smiles and nice talk, but the smile didn't reach her eyes like the one a minute ago.

Beth leaned back from whispering in Jack's ear. "You're welcome Lena, I hope you are having a wonderful time so far?"

"It's been amazing, some quality time away that neither of us would have taken otherwise." Gesturing to me, I smiled at the couple across the table and tried not to laugh as Lena called me a workaholic. She wasn't wrong.

"I'm glad we could give you a reason to get away from the city. Although you are missed in Metropolis Lena, I'm glad to see you are doing well in National City." Beth reached for her drink, as some waiters appeared from inside to offer Lena and I drinks that we both declined, a water pitcher already on the table.

Jack shifted in his chair. "How has it been in National City? You have had some close calls if the news is to be believed since you moved there." Frowning slightly, I schooled my features back into a smile before anyone could notice. What was the problem with National City?

Lena poured herself a drink and passed me the pitcher. "National City has been extremely good for me, Kara is a testament to that, I never would have met her if I had stayed in Metropolis. As for the close calls, those are not the City's fault but my families and I doubt I would have been safer in Metropolis." Proud she felt safe in our city I couldn't help but smile and look at her as I placed the pitcher down, Cat eying the whole table.

Beth rested a hand on top of Jack's and leaned closer to him. "Why wouldn't you be safer in Metropolis?" It was a valid question, but the look she flew at me worried me, what was she trying to get at here?

Lena sipped her water. "I just mean, Metropolis is Superman's city and I don't feel he would be so inclined to save a Luthor after what Lex did and tried to do." My smile fell. Did she really think Superman wouldn't save her just because of her last name?

"And yet out of anywhere in the world, you chose Supergirl's city to call home?"

Lena glanced at me, my frown deepening at the topic of conversation. "I moved to National City specifically because of Supergirl, I wanted to show the world I wasn't like my family so wanted to share a city with the Girl of Steel and show a Super and  Luthor didn't need to be enemies." Hearing her words my frown disappeared, replaced with a small smile at hearing her say that again.

"Are you saying that Supergirl never suspected you of being like every other Luthor once? From what I've seen she doesn't seem like the most understanding of people." I looked at Cat, who like me wasn't a fan of this conversation as I watched her gulp the last of her drink. Jack saw the action too.

Lena reached a hand under the table to rest on top of mine, her thumb gently rubbing my wrist. "There have been moments where my friendship with Supergirl has been tested, but she only wants to keep people safe. Supergirl has saved my life more times than we have disagreed."

Beth looked from Lena to me. "You have a friendship with Supergirl too Kara, right? You have managed to quote her when others can barely talk to her, how have you managed that?" I glanced at Cat, silently pleaing for her to try and change the topic of conversation.

"Um... my sister works for the FBI and Supergirl has worked with them a few times on cases, so she agreed to let me interview her occasionally." Don't look like you're lying, don't look like you're lying. No one seemed to think anything wrong with that, thank Rao.

"You are extremely lucky, but enough talk about the Supers." I breathed a small sigh of relief. "I want to know how you two got together, the tabloids have nothing and from what I gathered Cat didn't either, both of which are rare occurrences." Lena laughed while I took a deep breath. I definitely sighed too soon.

Lena turned her head to look at me, the two of us wondering who should talk first when the lunch platters were brought out. Salads, sandwiches, pasta. It was basically anything healthy, which almost had be running back to our villa.

Staying focused on the food, I let Lena take the lead since she was the better liar and we all started dishing up the meal. "We've been together for two months, but we've been friends for just over three years?" She looked at me for clarrifiaction and I nodded, time had flown by, I could still remember the first day I walked into her office.

Beth raised her eyebrows. "Wow, how did you go from being friends to a couple?"

Again I didn't want to say something wrong, so I just left it up to Lena. "I asked her to dinner and I will admit, her face when she walked into my apartment to find a table on the balcony was comical. She had no idea I meant a date as in a date and had come prepared with several movies to binge watch after what she hoped was takeout." Listening, I could imagine that happening, me turning up to a date armed with movies and no clue as to what was happening.

"I'm not surprised, Kara is the most oblivious person I have ever met." Cat smiled at me, the comment just making everyone laugh as I tried to think if she was telling the truth.

"I'm not that oblivious, am I?" Turning to Lena, she raised her glass to her lips and avoided my gaze until her glass was empty, sparking another round of laugher. "Name one time I was oblivious to you trying to ask me out." I was genuinely offended now, I was not oblivious.

Lena raised an eyebrow at me, challenging if I really wanted to bring this up, which I really did. "Okay, fine. Well there was my many attempts at flirting. After your first solo article on me we were talking I was flirting. Then there was the time I invited you to the gala, but Mike was there and I didn't want to seem too forward since we were only just friends. When I told Jess you were to be shown into my office whenever possible. When you brought me a dounut and I said 'Well, I am human.',  I don' think I could have done much else other than kiss you for you to figure it out." With each new example I couldn't tell if she was lying anymore, every single one was real and she wasn't embellishing anything. "Do you want me to keep going?"

Silent, I just looked at her until another time popped into my head. "The time you filled my office with flowers?"

Smiling, Lena nodded. "Yes, I was flirting."

Confused and shocked, I didn't know what to say or do. Lena had just made this much more personal and real than I thought this could get and I didn't understand how if she was telling the truth I had completely missed it. Without thinking, I stood up and left without a word, leaving Lena confused and everyone else shocked but I had to talk to Alex.

I refuse to believe I was that oblivious.
