There is a way to raise a Level 1 Pokemon and sky-rocket it all the way to Level 87.
The only way to do that is to have a traded Pokemon (make sure it is definitely traded) hold a Lucky Egg and defeat a Level 100 Blissey. If you do so, your Pokemon will gain 457,970 experience points.
