Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are the only games where you can get an option of three starter Pokemon from different generations.
At the beginning of the game, you get a choice between Cyndaquil, Chikorita, and Tododile. After getting all 16 badges, Prof. Oak will give you a choice between Charmander, Bulbasuar, and Squirtle. And after defeating Red at the top of Mt. Silver, Steven Stone will give you the choice between Torchic, Treeko, and Mudkip.
When I first found that out, I choose Tododile, Charmander, and Treeko. By the time I did everything that could be done in HeartGold and SoulSilver, I had Feraligatr, Charizard, and Sceptile all at Level 100.
