All the Hugs I Didn't Give

He walked me home in the dark of night.

He blinked in amazement as I thanked him.

I almost hugged him that night.

I so badly wish I had.

He scooted over in the rain.

He allowed me the dry seat.

I shook my head in disbelief.

I should have hugged him then.

He text me at a busy hour.

He tried to get to know me.

I told him all the little quirks I really hate about me.

I should have told him then he was already slipping past my walls and hugged him.

He told me he was here for me.

He didn't know how much that meant to me.

I should have told him I needed a hug.

I should have allowed him in sooner.

He held open doors for me.

He tried to mask the surprise in his eyes.

I tried to thank him for every little thing he did.

I should have hugged him then for all the hugs I didn't give.
