I was scared to death. More scared then when I was sold the first time. More scared then I had been when I was with Jal. More scared then I had been at any time in my life. I was about to make the most important decision of my life. I was about to marry Erik. This was our wedding day and I was terrified. It was about three weeks after Erik had reconciled with his mother. It hadn't been easy, he told me later, but he knew it wasn't right to hold a grudge for so long. She had been so young. He said he could still find in his heart to forgive her. He said that if it hadn't been for me he would've have seriously hurt her. I didn't believe it. No one could hurt that woman after hearing that heartbreaking story. The fact was she had stayed long enough to see the wedding. I was sitting in my room while Destine sat on the bed and talked. Natilde and a maid were messing with my hair. I didn't know what they were doing and I didn't care. I was simply trying to calm my nerves. I hadn't ever been so worried. This was a terrifying day. I loved Erik more than life itself that I knew. It wasn't that I didn't love him it was that it would be a big step in my life. One I knew I was ready to take but would take all my courage to do. Suddenly I heard my aunt say,

“Did you hear us, Alair? What do you think?” I looked up at my reflection and gasped. My hair looked beautiful. It was curled and pulled back with barrettes. My blond lock had been braided and hung down the side of my face, nicely accented. I stood and heard the rustle of my dress. It was pure white except for the gold lace on the bodice, ends of the sleeves, and the bottom of the skirt. Aunt said that it made my eyes pot. As if they didn't already. The dress itself was made of silk and flowed to the floor. The neck-line was low and it was sleeve-less. The sleeves started on her forearm and went to the wrist. It clung to every curve that I liked and hit the ones I hated. I couldn't believe that this girl had been one year ago a simple gypsy slave. I was now to be the wife of a respected pianist. I was someone. I touched that lock of hair and thought about Erik. We were similar in many ways. I couldn't name them all but I was glad I could empathize with him a little.

“Are you ready, my girl?” My aunt asked me. I nodded and walked from my room. Destine was to be my flower girl and bride's maid. Zhek had agreed to cease the search for Coco who had disappeared the night that Erik had escaped. He was to be Erik's best man. Uncle would escort me down the aisle. I walked to the doors of the drawing room where it was to be held. Aunt walked in and I knew she was taking her seat beside Elaine. I stood quietly, trying to calm my nerves.

“Destine, am I allowed to be scared?” Destine nodded.

“Its okay. Just take a few deep breaths and imagine how happy you will be when you marry Erik. He is perfect for you.” I smiled. She was right. Erik and I were perfect for each other. Our love ran deep and strong. And it would run like that forever. I nodded to Destine.

“I am ready.” She smiled at me and started to walk down before me. I waited until I heard the music and followed her. I looked up and Erik and was almost shocked at how handsome he looked in his fine suit. He had worn a black mask with to go with it and his black wig was brushed to perfection. Though I like his black wig I still preferred that thinning white hair. As I drew closer I saw his golden eyes glowing. I knew he was stunned by the look on his face. The pastor started the ceremony and at last it was time. The pastor said,

“Do you, Alair Heichel, take this man, Erik DePray, to be your wedded husband?”

“I do.” I said firmly.

“Do you, Erik DePray, take this woman, Alair Heichel, to be your wedded wife?” I heard Erik's resounding,

“I do.” I feel the blush coming to my cheeks as he said the next words.

“I declare you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.” And Erik kissed me. Lets just say that he had figured out how to kiss in those few months we had been in love. He had it down to an art. I enjoyed every moment of it. But we couldn't stay like that forever. We did have a party to attend. We finally broke apart but I knew by the look in Erik's eyes that it wasn't over. I couldn't have been more happy. I was married to the love of my life and we would be together for the rest of our lives. It was a perfect day.
