[NOT MINE]

( clay jensen )

It’s been two months. Almost three actually. Almost three months of enduring Clay Jensen’s attitude. Ever since I started working here, he doesn’t give me the time of day. And when he does, it’s usually with a sneer accompanied by a death glare. Today was no different.
“Clay? Who’s on gum shift?“ I looked at him over the counter with a broom in my hand as he glanced over at me with a sneer.
“You, (Y/L/N). How many times do I have to tell you that?“ Clay threw the rag in his hand down by the popcorn machine and turned around to face me.
“Once. You’ve only told me once actually,“ I watch as his sneer gets worse.
“And if you checked the schedule on your own time, maybe I wouldn’t have to tell you.“
“What’s your problem? You have been treating me as something less than a competent person since I got this job,” I tried to keep my voice as calm as possible but I was finally at my breaking point.
“I have a problem with the fact that you’re trying to be her. You’re parading around in her uniform as if she never had a place here.“
“Really? You have a problem with how I got the job and was given a uniform I didn’t know had previously belonged to the girl you were infatuated with before she died-“ Clay cut me off with such a sharp tone that I faltered a little bit.
“She didn’t just die. She committed suicide because the kids at our school are assholes.”
“Well I am sorry that I was given this fucking uniform with no information on who the prior owner was. I’m sorry that I’m such a nuisance because of the job I was given and the fact that I am apparently parading around like I own the place even though I have followed the rules of looking to you because you were the one in charge of training me,“ I let the broom fall from my hands as I swiftly moved to remove the uniform top seeing as I was wearing a tank top underneath.
“What are you doing?“ Clay’s voice lost all anger when he saw me set the vest on the counter and started removing the white shirt.
“Making both of our lives a little bit easier. I quit. I’m clearly not wanted here so why stay? Have a nice day, Clay,” Just as I went to go grab my stuff from the back, I was tugged back around by my arm before I could make three steps.
“Don’t quit… I’m sorry for acting that way towards you. I shouldn’t have ever done that. You didn’t do anything wrong, (Y/N). I’m really sorry but please don’t quit.“
“On two conditions,“ I smirked when he looked at me with hope in his eyes.
“Anything.“
“You start being nicer to me and you take gum shift today,” he started laughing before nodding eagerly. I could barely process that he had pulled me into a tight yet gentle hug before letting me go and quickly running off to complete his last minute shift. I laughed softly as I put my uniform back on and continued sweeping up the popcorn that littered the floor, “That went better than I thought it would.”
