A life, a recollection, nothing from the

Unknown, indefinite returns to state,

And now, whatever he thinks is backwards―

And inward comes the matrix of quanta,

And he returns and hears the resonances,

Forever will they chime off hollow walls,

Of City Whence. He hears his Mother Earth

And prays the supplicants words are heard.

Calamity and effort in reverse,

A measuring tape gauges everything

From there to here. It shouts, it screams, a cycle

That's always, constantly, a mystery,

From muck to life! Is soil to dirt,

As dust to clay, or earth? He shouts, "Ahead

Is not the way!" A man opposed, esteemed―

A steadiness of life will slip from grip.

(A.N. "A Life, a Recollection" is a four stanza blank verse poem)
