“Chen Deng Xi.”

I looked at Scarlet and raised a kilay. “Excuse me?”

“That’s his birth name. He’s the presiding and chief executive officer of Isla Filipinas University. You wanted to know more about him, right?”

I nodded. “Then?”

“A computer genius. The only son of Chen Empire’s—”

“Chen Empire?” I repeated, looking at him in alarm. “But that’s one of the biggest groups of companies in Asia.”

Scarlet nodded. “Exactly. And he’s the only heir.”

I crossed my arms. “Then what is he doing, strutting around Isla in his business suit?” I asked sarcastically.

Scarlet shrugged. “He’s the president, so malamang rumarampa siya sa Isla, right?”

“Iyon nga eh. Why is he presiding the management of Isla when in fact he should be in his own company?” I asked, raising a kilay.

“Aba, Boss, malay ko.”

“I told you to run a background check on him,” I almost snapped.

He nodded frantically. “He graduated in an elite university in Beijing. Top of all his classes, an athlete who—”

“Really, I don’t care how perfect his records are,” I said.

“Naman, Boss, sabi mo mag-background check!”

“Kaya nga! It means… I need dirt!”

“Huh?”

I put my hands on my waist. “I don’t need to know how perfect his academic or sport records are. I need dirt, Scarlet. Dirt.”

His mouth formed an O. “OMG. Dirt? As in… stains? ‘Yung… alam mo na…”

I nodded. “Exactly.”

He blinked. “But, Boss—”

“What?”

Scarlet sighed. “He has a stainless reputation.”

“Kaya nga you need to dig deeper eh,” I said.

“Eh, Boss, bakit pala need mo ng dirt?”

I narrowed my eyes. “Because I have a feeling that he would be digging up my chronicles, too.”

“OMG, really. Boss? Pero paano mo nalaman?”

I looked at him and smirked. “My name is Yumi Diaz,” I answered, smirking, “and I know everything.”

He blinked. “Boss? Nakakakilabot ka. But anyway, I found out something interesting.”

“What is it?”

“NGSB.”

“Excuse me? Is that some kind of food?”

“No! Naman, Boss! NGSB! No girlfriend since birth!”

I gave him a blank look. “Huh?”

“He’s single! Single since birth! Don’t you find it interesting? A guy that perfect—”

“Nobody’s perfect,” I said, raising an eyebrow.

“Fine! Almost perfect! A guy like that without a girlfriend? At his age?”
