Chapter 6

My alarm went off at exactly seven o’clock per usual, and instead of closing my tired eyes again and, attempting to find the strength to get out of bed, somehow it found me. My feet hit the floor and I powered towards the bathroom, staggering as I went. I grasp the handles of the door and opened them with unnecessary force. Running towards my shower I fall, but get right back up again, not even feeling the pain that was beginning to work its way through my legs. My bathroom ritual, [which was usually very slow] was hurried. I was done in a matter of 20 minutes and I now sat behind my large mahogany desk waiting for Amy to make her morning appearance. I rap my fingers on the hard surface of my desk and counts the seconds that go by as I wait for Amy to get a move on. I wonder what will happen when I see that psychopath today. Maybe he will open up to me? Probably not. I guess I will just have to break him down. For some reason that didn’t seem likely to me either. Looking into his eyes I found myself trapped and unable to escape his hold. Was that a frost giant thing? I didn’t seem like it happened to Fury, or the Avengers. Embarrassment suddenly filled up in me and my cheeks started to burn ever so slightly. Did anyone notice my behavior around the prisoner? Did I appear weak? Oh my goodness, maybe that was why Fury didn’t want me to see Loki right away. Embarrassment gone, hello anger. I was VERY capable of talking to some dumb ass prisoner! I sat up straighter in my chair and folded my hands across my lap. Fury would just have to see. One quick knock on my door and Amy entered my room looking very refreshed, unlike myself. "Good morning! Oh, wow, you didn’t sleep well." she said, observing the dark circles under my eyes. I sigh. "I tried to cover them up with makeup, but obviously it didn’t work. Thanks for pointing that out Amy." I say to her sarcastically. She laughed her perky little jingle and prances over to me with our breakfast. Amy and I now sit at my desk every morning and we share my unbelievably large meal. She gently placed the silver tray down and reveals to me a stack of pancakes, a fruit bowl, hash browns, bacon and a jug of cranberry juice along with two glasses, one for me, and one for her. I practically inhale my food, not even tasting it as I go. I clear my plate, and stand up quickly to run to the bathroom, but not before tripping over the couch and face planting on the floor. "Ivy are you ok!?" Amy yells, running over to my side. "I’m fine. Just going to brush my teeth and, well, you know, the couch tripped me." I say, brushing her off and I continue to make my way into the bathroom. I snatch up my tooth brush and scrub my teeth, removing any traces of my breakfast. I rinse my mouth with mouth wash, my tongue burning against the powerful taste. Spitting the wash out in the sink I turn and run back out the door and into the hall. Amy is right behind me, rolling her eyes as she closes the door behind us. The walk to the cell wasn’t very long as I practically sprinted the entire way. I did however fall twice and break a vase on the way down. Amy seems very comfortable around my excessive klutziness now and just picks me up and brushes me off. Im thankful Amy has good coordination. "Where is Fury? Can’t we just go in?" I ask Amy and one of the guards impatiently. We are standing outside the cell doors unable to access the prison without clearance from Fury or an Avenger. "He will be here in a moment. Just give- oh, never mind." Amy and I turned around to greet Fury, who stood behind us looking more unfriendly than usual. "Can you unlock the door please?" I didn’t even say hello. This confrontation with Loki had been keeping me up all night, and I was anxious to get started. Fury stared at me with his one eye, unblinking. "Give it a rest Mason. Look im going to let you in but I warn you, he’s a bit of a handful. Just be careful alright? He can get inside your head and leave you totally clueless." Fury tries to reason with me. I stand up straighter, offended that he underestimates my abilities. "This is part of my job sir, I think I will be fine." I say with polite coldness. Fury smirks and, with a quick whip of his hand, unlocks the door with the key card and steps aside for me to enter. I gulp now and Fury’s smirk grows. "Thank you sir. I will see you soon." I nod to Amy and to Fury and step inside the cold room again. I walk forward, leaving Fury and Amy behind and approach the cell. The slam of the door shutting behind startles me and I jump. A dark chuckle fills the silence in the room. I look into the cage to see him lounging on a bench. "Did that frighten you?" he asks me in his silky British accent, his voice inviting me in. My jaw drops and I look around the room. I am completely alone. He chuckles again, which sends shivers down my spine. "Do I frighten you?" Loki asks. Oh my goodness. His voice is like honey and his eyes are seeing into my soul. I look down and make my way over to the chair I had sat in yesterday. Unsteadily I sit down and take the opportunity to breathe. I look up at him through my lashes. Loki is now leaning up against the glass in front of me, looking like a male model while he did. His forever flawless features are amused as he waits patiently for my answer. One more deep breath and I sit up straighter in my chair, trying my best to remain calm and unintimidated. "No actually. Why ever would you frighten me?" I ask him coldly, doing my best to match his tone. A deep smirk forms across his lovely features. "I am not someone to be taken lightly mortal. I have seen thousands of your kind tremble at my feet begging for mercy. And they do not find it with me. You would be foolish to not be frightened of one as powerful as I ." Did he threaten me? It came out sounding like a threat. My stomach felt like it was being clawed at. I cleared my throat, trying not to look as if I took his dangerous words seriously. "Do you know who I am Loki?" I ask, ignoring his previous statement all together. Loki rolls his electric blue eyes. "No, but I have a feeling that you will tell me." I clench my teeth. "Loki my name is Dr. Ivy Mason. Im a psychologist with S.H.I.E.L.D. I was thinking that maybe we could talk. I would love to hear about you." my voice is gentle and polite, and I immediately turn into my professional self. Loki pauses for a moment until he suddenly erupts into a thunderous laugh. For some reason I blush at this. "You wish to know more?’ he gasps, his body vibrating from his constant chuckles "please, Dr. Mason, do ask me." Loki walks over, no, glides over, to his bench and again lounges on it. I must have missed something. "I don’t get the joke. Am I missing something?" I ask the still amused Loki. He smiles at me. "Oh nothing. You are quite the character Doctor. Doctor? What year are you?" he asks, ignoring my question. "Im twenty- six." I answer. "A grown woman? You look a mere twelve! I feared that S.H.I.E.L.D. had really hit rock bottom." he chuckled. "I don’t look that young." I whispered to myself. "Im afraid you do Doctor." says Loki across from me. Whoa. How did he hear that? I guess God’s have super hearing or something. Back to the point. "So Loki, most of the damage you created last time has been repaired. But are you aware of the people you hurt? The lives you effected? How do you feel about all of it?" I question him. Best to start off deep. Another musical laugh from the cell. "Feel anything? It is not my place to ‘feel anything’. he started to rise from his bench, making his way over to me. "All of you filthy humans combined are not worth one of me. I am a King. More powerful than you can even comprehend.’ he was starting to yell angrily now, his eyes burning like a mad man, "You will all bow down to me! So Dr. Mason, do I feel pity for my doings? No. Remorse makes you weak, and I, am no such thing!" he spat the words at me, venom coating his words. There was a long silence filling the dark chamber now. I have been in this room for not even five minutes and it has escalated to this. Where did all the anger come from? It was so fast. I didn’t realize at first, but I was pressed up against my chair, my body language giving away my fear. I was paralyzed. The danger behind his eyes told me I needed to walk away. ‘Don’t give him the satisfaction you idiot! Don’t give Fury the satisfaction! Your session just started!" my little voice shouted angrily at me. I inhaled lots of air into my lungs and repositioned my body. Loki, leaned against the wall nearest me, hatred pouring out of them. I guess I hit a nerve. "Well Loki, im sorry you feel that way. I guess we have a lot of work to do." I stood up now and collected myself. I began to walk, stumble rather, to the door. A new found confidence came over me. I turned back to Loki who looked bemused. "I will see you soon for our next session." I said coldly. As if on cue, the big, metal doors opened up and, I couldn’t help but feel a little smug. I strode out of the room, but not before catching the surprised look on Loki’s dangerously handsome face.
