First test of the semester already, and of course it was a math test. I'd studied with Emily last night... well, very early this morning.
We did actually review a good amount of concepts, but my stomach was still in knots at the idea of having to take this exam without notes, formulas or anything other than a calculator. I was not built for memorization. Emily, Miss Photographic Memory, was.
"Come on! We can't be late for that math test we're obviously going to ace! We studied a lot last night!" She reminded me, trying to rush me as we were running late again.
How we managed to be late for the same statistics class nearly everyday was beyond me.
Somehow, Emily was feeling rather confident we'd do well on this test. With my luck, we'd both gotten the same flu and missed two lectures, which by the way, meant two whole lessons. There were two whole lessons we did not get to learn, and so we did not know how to do two things. What if the exam was based on those two things? What would we do?
"Em..." I called after my speed-walking sister nervously.
"You'll be fine!" Emily reassured me, "You're totally fine! We studied a lot last night!"
"Fine?! Math is my WORST subject!" I shouted back, knots all tied up in my stomach and chest.
How could Emily be so confident about the test when we both seemed to struggle with this class? Of course, my sister seemed to have a better grasp of it all, the same way she always had, but this test seemed extraordinarily terrifying from just the study guide. As soon as we sat down in the class, I found my eyes yet again with the all-too familiar stinging wetness I forced myself to ignore.
