Yesterday was our technical first full day at college. It hadn't been too interesting, seeing as my bossy roommate sister insisted we spend the entire day customizing the dorm room. Emily really researched before we came, checked the measurements of the rooms online, then ordered wallpaper the exact same color as our shared room back home.

Well actually, it was the same color as HER side of our bedroom, a light pink of course.

Nonetheless, it was a long, boring day of wallpapering the walls, unpacking, and decorating the room. I would've preferred driving around the area of California we were now located in and checking out the local fun places, but no... Of course it was always Emily's way.

After dinner, we decided going to sleep early was a good idea. To be frank, I was entirely dreading the concept of going to our classes the next day. The first day nerves were definitely biting.

Usually I had some tearful flavor of an anxiety attack the night before and morning of my first day, but I was really surprised about how my eyes remained dry in the moment.

"So summer's really over," Emily muttered to me after about ten minutes of the tossing-and-turning attempting to sleep.

"I swear we just graduated high school a week ago," I forced a laugh, but my jaw was already trembling. I stabilized it by putting a pillow under my chin.

Why was I so nervous? I knew those brats who tormented me throughout the entirety of my public school years weren't attending this university, or even in the state

Why was I so nervous? I knew those brats who tormented me throughout the entirety of my public school years weren't attending this university, or even in the state. No one knew me here, and no one would care about who I was (in a good way of course!). This was college, and life was different. Dad told me that before I left.

It was so dark with the lights out, I couldn't see Emily's expression from across the room. I could tell she was nervous too.

"Starting classes... Exciting stuff. Do you think college courses are really hard? Mom said she had to pay someone to write her essays, but that's Mom."
