Once on a white piece of paper with no lines
he wrote a song
And he called it "Lola,"
because that was the name of the girl next door
And she's what it was all about
And he sang it in front of her
at the school dance
And all the other girls swooned
and threw jealous glances at Lola
That was the year the science teacher
took the whole class to the museum
And he let them sneak gum into the building
And his little sister was born
with tiny toenails and no hair
And his mother and father kissed a lot
And Lola sent him a
Valentine signed with a row of X's
and his older brother laughed at the row of X's on the card
and said that they were child's play
And his father always tucked in him bed at night
And was always there to do it
Once on a piece of yellow paper with green lines
he wrote a song
And he called it "Summer,"
because that was the name of the season
And that's what it was all about
And he sang it for Lola
at her birthday party
But none of the other girls swooned
because they were too busy talking to their boyfriends
And his classmates told him
that the science teacher cheated on his wife
And had to sleep the backseat of his car
because he had been kicked out of his house
That was the year his sister got braces
with pink brackets and shiny silver wires
And Lola looked at him funny
when he asked her to go to the Christmas parade
And the neighbor kids told him why
his mother and father kissed a lot
And his father never tucked him in bed at night
And his father got mad
when he cried for him to do it
Once on the back of a napkin from a fast-food restaurant
he wrote a song
And he called it "Hopeless and Hopeful,"
because that was the question about Lola
And she's what it was all about
And he never sang it to her
because he knew that she would cry again
like she did so often now
And none of the other girls would swoon
because they were always off with their boyfriends
That was the year the science teacher was arrested
for something that had to do with his ex-wife
And he forgot how the end
of The Great Gatsy went
And he caught his sister
who no longer had braces with pink brackets and shiny silver wires
making out on the back porch
And his mother and father never kissed
or even talked
And Lola wore too much makeup
And forced his hands under her shirt
when he kissed her
but he kissed her anyway
because that was the thing to do
And at three a.m. he tucked himself into bed
and listened to his father snoring soundly
That's why on the back of a drugstore receipt
he tried another song
And he called it "Searching for Solace,"
because that's what it was really all about
And gave himself a round of applause
and a slash on each damned wrist
And sang it to himself in the bathroom
because this time he didn't think
he could reach wherever Lola was
>> another poem based on the brilliant writings of stephen chbosky in the perks of being a wallflower. if you've read it, then you know that this is a variation on the poem charlie read to patrick on the night of the christmas party (it made me cry). i changed it up, but the idea is still the same. the parts that are indented are excerpted word-for-word from perks. all credit goes back to stephen chbosky, of course.
>> also, the song on the side is a flares, by the script. please listen to it, bc i'm sure you could use a pretty song to make you feel better after these horribly sad poem.
