I must have fallen asleep because I wake up still laying under the oak tree. I can still hear the drumming sound that woke me up. The four beat sound that is so familiar to me. I sit up. It's hoof beats. I get up and walk in the direction it is coming from. I make my way up a large hill. The hoof beats are getting louder and louder by the second. I finally make it to the top of the hill and pause. There in a small valley is a beautiful buckskin stallion rearing and crying out his challenge to the sky. His long mane is flowing out behind him glistening in the sunlight and his muscles are rippling. He sees me and lowers his front feet to the ground. My red hair whips in front of my vision then is swept out of my face by the wind. Our gazes are fixed on each other as if we are both captured by the other's beauty. I am breathless. He is the most beautiful horse I have ever seen. He snorts and canters gracefully up the hill towards me but stops some metres away. He looks me dead in the eye as if looking right through my soul. I stare back and it is as if I see sadness anger and hope in his emotions. I reach my hand up to his muzzle not breaking my gaze. I feel his warm breath on my hand and I place it against his soft velvety muzzle. A shiver goes down my spine and I know now that this was meant to happen. For what seems like an eternity we stand there enjoying each other's company but he suddenly shakes out his mane. He backs up a few steps then rears up lashing with his front hooves before landing back on all four feet and galloping to the hills. He pauses and looks back crying out one last time before galloping off into the distance.
"Good bye," I say watching him until he disappears. But some how I know I haven't seen the last of him. I then turn to the shack only to find a very shocked looking Luke gawping at me.

"How long were you standing there for?" I ask walking towards him.

"Do you know how untameable that stallion is?" He asks slowly ignoring my question.

"Well he has a free spirit of coarse he's untameable." I state.

"That horse has never let anyone near it let alone allow a human to touch it!" He still has a shocked look on his face.

"Maybe he just likes me." I smirk, "Or is that so hard to believe. Maybe you don't like me." I give a fake hurt expression.

"No of coarse I like you... I mean I don't like you like that... I mean I like you as a friend... I mean I barely know you and..." He trails off awkwardly.
My face goes a bright red and I look down at my feet.
I clear my throat, "Umm, it's getting dark we should cook that soup."
He nods and we head inside.
After we both have a helping of soup each we sit down on the worn old chairs and talk about our life. I tell him about my family and how my parent's could never afford for me to go to school. I talk about Lexi and the farm and mom and dads mysterious job.
"What about you?" I ask looking at him expectantly.
"What?" He says confused.
"What about your life. I've told you almost everything about me, what about you?"
"Oh ok. well, ever since I was three my parents had a job they would never tell me about. They would say "maybe someday you will under stand but for now it's too dangerous". Some times they would come home with a black eye. once dad got shot. He said it wasn't a bullet mark but I knew since I do a lot of hunting. I was curious but often just left the subject because I knew they would never have told me. Anyways, one day when I was thirteen, my parents didn't come home. We got the call that they were killed in a car accident. But it doesn't add up. My parents were always careful on the road and one day I went to see the car they were driving. It didn't have one single scratch on it.
Soon after, the adoption centre came to pick us up. I almost went with them. I almost gave in. But I saw Laurels innocent face and knew right at that moment if we went they would split us up. So we took out bags and we ran as far and fast as we could." He looks down at his feet then back to me, "Laurel was the only thing I had left and they took her away from me. I have no one."
"You have me." I say getting up from my chair to sit on the edge of his, "And I am going to help you get her back."
He looks up at me his piercing green eyes staring deeply into mine. my heart beats faster as I realise how close our faces are. He closes the distance and presses his lips against mine. he cups my face and breaks away looking deeply into my eyes.
"Since the moment I saw you I've wanted to do that." He says grinning. I smile back and lean my forehead against his.
