Prompt:

Some choices lead us straight into the life we’re living, but for this poem, think about one of the things in your life you didn’t choose.

Be concrete. Pick an object — something tangible* — and write your poem directly to it, as if you were writing it a personal letter. Explain why you didn’t choose it. What could things have been like if you had? Talk about what your life has become without it. See where the “confession” takes you.

*As an alternative, dig a little deeper and write your poem to a person you left behind.

My Poem:

Dear that one person,

Everything seems strange without you.

Maybe if we had stayed friends it wouldve been different.

I never did get to tell you everything about me. Remember?

It feels like I compare you to every-every guy now.

Why is that? We never even went out…..

I tryed to leave you behind

but…I can’t help but see that it was you.

You who left me behind on the side of the rode as you started to forget.

I cry because of the dust in my eyes

so please do not comfort me.

Keep driving, find a girl that will make you believe in love

and I’ll start walking, hoping someone will pick me up on the way.

This letter is not organized.

It is just my soul layed bare for you,

since I know, like the others, this will stay someplace safer than your hands.

This is not a poem, I just needed something familiar, something safe.

Since I’ll never get back my old familaraity,

the strange comfort that is you,

I need something to help me say

“I miss you.” without to much fear.

You not being here is weird

but atleast now I have “that emotinal stuff”

I need for a good poem.

Sincerly,

this one person.
