So much has gone on since my last entry that I’m not even sure where to start. First off: Brooklyn’s a witch. And that’s not a euphemism for being a total B. I’m talking magic, spells and powers, oh my!

That’s right. Brooklyn’s just like Asher and me. Well, sort of. She only just came into her witchy powers, so she’s a little behind on her technical skills, but still—she’s a witch like us! When Asher told me about his suspicions, I nearly fell off my chair. How could this girl, who seemed to fly so totally under the radar for so long, be blessed with the ability to cast? It was almost unbelievable.

            Almost.

Until Asher confronted Brooklyn—in the bathroom of all places—and she’d admitted it. I was standing watch outside as they talked so I didn’t hear it firsthand, but according to Asher, she’d tried to deny it at first. Not that I blame her. The last thing one of us wants is to be discovered by a civilian (non-witching folk). Of course, once she realized she wasn’t the only one, and that Asher and I shared her secret, she came out of the witch closet.

Since then, the three of us have been spending most of our time together. We cast spells, teach Brooklyn magic we’ve been doing for years and just hang out. I know I was a little hesitant about letting her into our family circle before, but the fact that she is a witch changes everything. And the truth is, once I started to actually spend time with her, I realized just how cool she can be.

Although Asher and I are used to being a dynamic duo—mostly because we can’t truly be ourselves around the other normies at school—Brooklyn seems to fit right in with us. Almost as if she was the link that we hadn’t realized we’d been missing.

And that means that the connection between Brooklyn and Asher has only increased. It turns out that his interest in her wasn’t just because he could sense her supernaturalness. There is something else there, something that neither of them is ready to admit, but any outsider (myself in particular) could clearly see.

They were so totally into each other.

Which is fine, because I was growing fond of Brooklyn myself. So the idea of the two of them starting something together doesn’t bother me anymore. In fact, for now, I’m really enjoying watching things develop organically. As far as I’m concerned, neither of them need my help in making magic happen for them.

For instance: The other day, the three of us were hanging out at this park. It was just after school let out, so there weren’t a lot of other people hanging around the grounds yet. The three of us had wandered over there in hopes of finding a relatively secluded spot to work on some spells. I wasn’t totally keen on the idea of doing it in public, but we couldn’t practice at Brooklyn’s house because for some reason, her parents were weird about her doing magic. This is a topic I still need to get the low-down on, but for now, going there is out of the question. And anyways, it was a nice day out, so I didn’t push too hard against the outdoors location.

When we got there, we were able to find a spot that was back among the trees, way far away from the general public. Only people who were up to no good would come looking for us back there, and from our place behind some blackberry bushes, we’d be able to see anyone headed our way. Besides, we weren’t going to be doing anything too crazy.

At least that’s what I thought.

“I found this one spell on the Witchboards, and it’s way crazy,” Brooklyn said, sitting down on a rock the size of a boar and stretching out her legs. “Have you guys ever done a crafter spell?”
