Chapter 18

Goodbye

I take a pen from the floor so that I know what I write this time will be permanent. This is what I write:

Dear Whoever,

My time here is done. All my life, I've been abused physically and verbally by my father. I lived through that which I guess I should be proud of. The one thing I cannot survive is the death of the most precious guy I have ever met. I lived through rape and abuse and bullying my normal life, real life, but the life I always wanted, was the life I had when I was with him. To the little girl Susie at the water park, I apologise to you. You told me you hoped I would win my battle. Well, this is me losing.

I closed the notebook, but carried it with me to my bathroom. I went into the medicine cabinet and grabbed my bottle of Tylenol, not even opened. I've saved it for this reason.

I was in tears now as I walked downstairs. That's something I never quite understood. If you're in so much pain and you have wanted to kill yourself and are on your way to do it, why would you be crying?

When I got to the fridge, I found the biggest mug of beer we had and set it on the counter behind me with the pills and my notebook. My father was out probably banging some chick so I didn't have to worry about him. I took my things and walked into the downstairs bathroom. I sat on the edge of the tub and opened my notebook to the fresh entry.

"Well," I choked out," this is it." I opened the pill bottle and poured a handful out. Just as I was about to take the handful, I looked into the mirror and saw the person standing in the doorway, arms crossed over his chest. The pills in my hand fell to the floor.

"You aren't really gonna leave me all alone and without the most beautiful girlfriend there is, are you?"

Blaze walked over to me, pulled me up and gave me the biggest hug.

"I'll never leave you again," he whispered in my ear as he pulled back and kissed me.
