Chapter 11

I kept my eyes closed throughout most of the fight. Every time I opened my eyes, I saw Nicolas biting into Dylan or Dylan biting into Nicolas.

The first few minutes were such a tied fight. I didn’t know who to bet for. Dylan seemed bigger, stronger. At the same time, Nicolas was older. He had the experience and he was good.

Angela’s kept her eyes on the fight. I hardly saw her blink the few times I had my eyes open. If I closed my eyes, Angela’s grip told me how the confrontation was going.

Whenever Dylan hurt Nicolas too badly or bit into his fur, Angela would significantly tighten her hold on my hand.

Little by little I had inched myself closer to Eric. My arm was interlaced with his, and I kept my hand on his skin. He kept whispering reassuring words- telling me when Dylan had the upper hand.

Eric was sure Dylan had this fight in the bag.

When I couldn’t take the growls, the blood, or the attack anymore- I closed my eyes and left them like that for the rest of the fight.

I allowed my mind to wander. I thought back to the first time I met Dylan. It wasn’t a pleasant memory, but at the same time it was.

It was almost like if meeting Dylan woke up something in me that had been dormant for my entire life.

I thought about Eric convincing me to talk to Dylan. Then finding Dylan and speaking with him on the ride back to Midnight Moon.

He seemed to be really possessive and authoritative.  It was so easy to fall asleep in his arms, which were safe and warm. There was no doubt he was really strong.

I couldn’t help but also include Alpha Nicolas in my thoughts. I’d been here enough time to get used to him, to his customs, and to how he liked things.

He didn’t deserve this. He didn’t deserve to be fighting to death over me. I wasn’t even his mate.

My mind felt clouded as I tried to organize everything and focus on something that wasn’t painful.

“He’s dead,” Angela gravely whispered.

At the same time, Eric said, “He won.”

Loud howls were heard throughout the clearing. Some sounded painful, in agony. Others were in celebration.

I slowly opened my eyes, to see Dylan’s Wolf standing proud and howling at the sky along with his pack.

I saw the Wolves on the side, the ones from Raven pack. Nicolas had just died, and they were already mourning his death.

A strange tingly sensation in my neck brought my attention back to my body. I moved my hand to touch the bite mark on my neck that Nicolas had created to stake his claim.

Slowly, I felt as it started healing and disappearing from my skin.

My eyes grew watery automatically. This was it. It had really happened. Nicolas was gone.

I took a step forward, toward the clearing that was created for the battle.

Nicolas’ naked human form was lying on the ground. He had bites on his arms and legs, but his neck was the main injured area. There were prominent teeth marks on his neck, which was twisted in an awkward position.

A sob wracked through my body as I released Angela’s hand, and let go of Eric. I made my way to Nicolas’ body, crying along with the Wolves that had belonged to my pack just days ago.
