Sophie's POV:

I stare at my reflection in the mirror. I see my dark brown long hair, my green eyes, my small body which is covered in bruises and cuts – I look lifeless. My eyes are dead, my body is pale and my hair needs to be washed.

My name is Sophie Roberts, I'm 11 years old and live in an orphanage in London. I've been here for the last three years and been adopted four times. Let's just say they haven't exactly been the dream family. I have always ended up back here with more scares, both physically and mentally. I lived with my parents and my younger brother until I was eight and that's when the "accident" happened. I was taken away and put in this orphanage. I don't know what happened to my parents but I have never heard from them or seen them since – which I'm very grateful for.

My parents weren't exactly the best. As long as I can remember they have been beating, cutting and treated me and my younger brother as slaves. They started to rape me when I was seven. Since my brother is younger than me I often tried to protect him, make them beat and cut me instead of him. It sounds very brave and hero-like but it wasn't really. It goes by pure instinct. Sure it meant more pain for me but it also meant less pain for him so I gladly took his place. I hate my parents for hurting me but I hate them even more for beating my four-year-old brother.

So here I am staring at myself in the mirror. Suddenly I hear a knock on the door, I run to my bed and wait for the person to enter.

"Good morning Sophie, you feeling well?" I look up and see Mrs Carter with a small smile on her face. She's my only friend here, by choice. I don't want to get close to anyone, except for Mrs Carter. I figured I will be here for many years and I need someone to speak with. I always tell myself: if you love someone you have something to lose and that makes you weaker. It just adds another way for people to hurt you.

"As usual, just like every day here" I answer Mrs Carter and stands up from the bed.

"You know, some people are coming here today to adopt a girl" Mrs Carter continues

"Maybe they will choose you" she says excitedly.

"I hope not. They will be just like everybody else, use me for a couple of months and then send me back"

"Sophie, not everybody is like that. These people could be different" she says and walks out my door.

"We'll see" I say

"I just hope they don't pick me"

Liam's POV:

We are finally getting our daughter today! The lads and I have been talking about this and planning this for more than a year now. We all want a daughter who will complete our little family. We decided to adopt from an orphanage, that way we can get a little older girl and help someone at the same time. We are aware that many children who live in orphanages have a troubled past. But if we can help just one child that's good enough for us.

We are so excited that when I park the car we bolt out of it all at once. We are greeted at the front door by an older woman who introduced herself as Mrs Carter. She goes to the bottom of a big stare and yells:

"Girls, time to come down now!" We immediately see eight girls running down and stops at the bottom. They all look very cute but all I can focus on is a small figure that's trying to hide behind the other girls. It seems like Harry has done the same because he goes around the other girls and kneels before her.

"Hi there cutie, what's your name?" he says in the most gentle voice.

"S-Sophie" she says so quietly I almost didn't hear her.

"What a beautiful name, my name is Harry. How old are you sweetheart?"

"Eleven" she says and finally lifts her head to look Harry in the eyes.
