On The Run

Ch. 12 Home

     "Shhhh. You'll wake Daisy up. She hasn't slept in days and I finally got her to go to sleep."

     "Ward?" I asked as I opened my eyes. I was right by the window so i really couldn't see much because of the light.

     "Dang it!" Ward said. "This is why I wanted to be quiet. Now she won't sleep for another few days."

     I looked to see who he was talking to. Coulson was sitting on a chair next to Ward's bed. "Good morning Daisy." Ward said.

     "How long was I asleep?" I asked. I assumed I was sleeping for a while. It was dark out and Ward had made me go to bed early this morning.

     Ward chuckled. "About 10 hours."

     I springed off the couch and ran to his bed. "Sorry I didn't want to sleep for that long. Are you ok? Do you need anything?"

     He laughed again. "Calm down. I'm fine." He thought for a moment. "But what would be wonderful is..."

     He stopped talking. "Yes?" I asked. I wanted to help him in whatever way I can.

     He smiled mischievously. "Go home, take a shower, eat some real food, not just coffee, and go to bed."

     "No" I said annoyed. "I thought I made it very clear that I will not just leave you alone here."

     "I'm not alone." Ward argued. "Coulson's here. Please Daisy go home."

     I looked over at Coulson. "You promise you'll stay here with him?" I asked.

     "I promise" Coulson said. Denying me an excuse to stay here.

     "Fine." I sad reluctantly. "But I will be here bright and early tomorrow morning."

     I stayed there for a moment not moving. "Go." Ward said.

     I squeezed his hand. "Fine. Good bye."

(30 minutes later)
 
     I hate to admit it but it did feel really nice to be home. Grabbed a towel and headed to the bathroom. I turned an the water then I looked at myself in the mirror. "Ward was right about the bags under my eyes being able to hold a week's worth of groceries." I thought. I undressed and got in the shower. 

     At first I did not want to get in the shower but once I was in I dreaded getting out. The hot water hitting my back felt heavenly and I had never appreciated soap more than I did at that moment.

     I eventually got out of the shower and got into my PJs. I was going to make some food but I just didn't have enough energy. I found a packet of ramen noodles in the cupboard and ate that. It might not be "real" food but it was better than just drinking coffee.

     I snuggled down on the couch with my ramen noodles and the movie Elf. I needed something to cheer me up and it did just that.

     Once the movie was over I went to the bathroom to get ready for bed. I brushed my teeth and washed my face then I fell in to my bed. It wasn't long before I was asleep.

     I woke up to the sun beating through the window right into my eyes. I must have been so tired last night that I forgot to shut the blinds. I grabbed my phone which was sitting on my bedside table. I look at the time. "It's 10:00!" I yelled. "I gotta go!" I quickly brushed my teeth and my hair, changed my clothes, grabbed some coffee, and headed out the door to the hospital.

     I burst through the door into Ward's room. I was texting Coulson thank you for staying with Ward last night. "I'm sorry I'm late Ward. I didn't realize what time it was. I know Coulson had to leave early this morning for work and I wanted to be here. I looked up from my phone to Ward's bed. It took me a second to process what I was seeing but when I did it was clear. Ward was not in his bed.
