Chapter Eight: Spilt Blood

[Ascelin]

Wynston Black was the head of the company that owned the institute. Concerning the media, he was a good man with perfect morals. His image came from his methods of allowing poor and/or orphaned children to have a free scholarship at the institute.

The media thought this to be of very good publicity, advertising his charitable actions. Of course, some people used this as an advantage to dig out the truth. Those who got far were dealt with by one of the newer students, meaning that it isn’t much of a difficulty to execute the problem.

Killing off the journalists put them in dodgy situations, so they resorted to turning their game back on them, bringing to thr public eye of the crimes of the paparazzi. Everyone seemed to have a skeleton at the back of their closet, and it wasn't a difficult task to expose theirs.

Wynston Black was referred to as in the paperwork as ‘Chancellor Black’. It served its purpose as a leading authority figure, making it seemingly obvious of the power that he had held. It also provided the means to give power to Red, who happened to be his daughter.

All information from Wynston was passed onto Red, who relayed the information to the workers, whom gave information back. That meant that both Red and Wynston were aware of all occurrences in the institute,  making it impossible for secrets to be kept hidden. They both held the ability to make those who reside in the institute feel like their every move was being watched by their 'all-seeing' eyes. Of course, it was merely an illusion. But to doubt their powers was a dangerous habit of some, who were more than likely having to felt the wrath of both of their powers.

Wynston held the power to choose the future candidates and he had orchestrated the means for their entry. The orphans and other children selected by Wynston were ideal for many reasons. For starters, they had no family, therefore no one to miss them and order a search party to find them if they went missing. They also carried skills that could be exploited in the ways that Wynston Black could chose without the authorities getting in the way. Moreover, the fact that they needed the opportunity as a gateway to their future lives served as a really good reason for the candidates to remain loyal and to not attempt escape attempts.

Abduction was one of the main methods for the bringing in of the non-orphans. It was often assumed that they were 'missing' or 'dead', and those who were allies of Wynston's company made sure that those who were claimed to be dead were ensured to be 'dead'. That often involved the workers who had stations in morgues and the police force to fake their bodies being found and tested positive for their DNA.

It was one of my first jobs at the institute to try and capture some of the DNA of the candidates in case it was needed. It was very understandable that they would struggle against the choice made, fearing for the security of their families and friends. Some of my days spent in the hospital ward with broken wrists was due to those instances.

It was my second job to help find the bodies that looked similar to the candidates. The task wasn't easy as that involved finding victims that looked like the candidate in question. It took an average of a couple of months to find a match, which to our advantage,  made their disappearance and their death look even more realistic.  After finding a couple of matches, I had to hand over the files of their image, and destination over to Red, who passed it on to specialised workers.
