~~~ Ali's POV ~~~
"R - R ... Ravelbarg." I gasped.
Black instantly went rigid, a growl shaking his body and echoing in my chest.
I just sobbed harder. I couldn't believe he'd found the source of my gifts! No one had ever figured it out before! I curled up smaller in Black's lap, trying to stop the fear forcing my body to shake as I thought about the damage he could do if he actually got his hands on it.
"Ali?" his growling cutting off and being replaced with worry. When I couldn't reply he simply tightened his hold and began stroking my hair again, "Shh, now," he cooed, "I've got you." and his words, paired with the comforting strokes managed to start to calm me down some, "Ali, whatever you've seen ... whatever he does to you in the future," his voice hardening at his own words, " ... It isn't going to happen. Do you hear me?" and pulled me impossibly closer as the Power he constantly exuded increased tenfold to wrap around us, " ... I'm going to stop it from happening." He vowed solemnly.
I sniffed and lifted my head to look at him, blinking away the tears trapped in my lashes and biting my lip to stop it from quivering. My heart ached at his words, but I shook my head miserably, "It's too late," I whispered, "there's not enough time to prevent him from finding it, he's already too close ... everything rests on Avery now," and a lump formed in my throat as the image of her getting brutally beaten and tortured flashed in my mind from the Premonition, " ... and from what I saw he's going to break her." fresh tears streaming down my cheeks as the pain and guilt of Avery's pain clenched my heart.
Black's jaw clenched at my words, though a new determination took over his expression as he stood from the sofa, carrying me as my legs stayed wrapped around him and I let my head fall into the warm crook of his neck and cried softly. He started to walk toward the kitchen, carrying me on one arm as he rifled through cupboards with the other and I distantly heard the click of the kettle boiling.
I had no idea what he was doing but just being held by him as waves of Power, Strength and Anger radiated off of him was amazing. To others and even myself when we had first met, the sense of dominance and threat he gives off is absolutely terrifying - almost like a physical force making you bend to its will. Though now, being so close to him and experiencing that power from a different perspective as it seemed to wrap around us, rather than hit me as it had before, I had never felt so safe or protected.
I felt my wolf purr softly like a sigh as she revelled in the feeling too.
By this time, Black had apparently finished what he'd been doing and I gasped a little as he gently set me down on the counter. I braced myself for the sad loss of his closeness, my wolf just about to whimper, when he stepped closer. He stood between my legs and leant in bending his head a little as he studied me, "Now here's what we're going to do, okay?" he asked firmly but gently as he brushed my face free of tears with sure hands, "you're going to keep taking sips of this delicious cup of hot chocolate," he said as he picked up a mug from beside me, "and in between each sip you're going to explain to me what I need to know, and what you saw in that Premonition, alright?"
I couldn't help but smile at him as my body flooded with awe for him. This is exactly what I needed. In that moment, I understood perfectly how his pack had become the most deadly and efficient in America ... they had Black to lead them and it was clear that no threat or attack would unnerve him or make him panic. No ... this was someone who would not be intimidated and had the brains and self discipline to look at the situation critically until he found an advantage.
"Okay," I nodded and took the mug from him, blowing it softly before closing my eyes and taking a big sip, letting it warm me up and sooth me.
As I opened my eyes and took a slow, calming breath, Black placed his hands on the counter on either side of my hips so his arms and body effectively caged me in, as if blocking the outside world and all it's threats and distractions so I could speak in peace, safe in this little bubble with him. Looking into his eyes I had his undivided attention.
