Chapter 5

Whispers filled the cafeteria, before growing silent. Kids made their way back to their seats, as the room slowly returned back to normal.

**Roc Pov**

I looked at Tinashe, bewildered "Bu.. I.. Did you..?"

She shook her head rapidly "No! Why would I tell anyone that?!" she silently yelled, as we ran out of the cafeteria in search for Zoe

Does she honestly think Ti and I would do that?

**Jawan Pov**

I felt so bad for Zoe, she didn't do anything to Bahja for her to let something out so personal as that. Bahja will definitely get what's coming to her.

We drove around in circles around her community for a while, not speaking a word. Just driving.

Finally breaking the silence, I parted my lips.

"You know, you didn't deserve that.." I said, apprehensively.. I was never quite the one with words

"The thing is.. Why would Ti and Roc even tell ANYONE that, let alone Bahja!" she snarled, defensively

I knitted my brows, Roc and Tinashe? They wouldn't do something like that..

The car grew awkward, once again in silence.

"uh, which way to your house?" I said under my breath

She rose her hand to her face and covered it with her palm "I can't let my dad see me like this, he'll take me out of public school again !" she said, her voice cracking

Again?

I thought for a second, before speaking "I gotchu" having a perfect place in mind

Walking her inside of the restaurant, she turned around.

"Red Lobster?" she said, surprised

"Yeah, why not?" I said, opening the door for her "I don't know about you.. But I can grub"

She smirked at me and walked inside, the hostess sat us in our booth.

The place was more or less quiet considering it was the middle of the week at lunch. We should be in school right now.. But hey.. yolo.

I grabbed her hand, pushing the menu down. "Zoe" I said, concern in my voice.

"What?" she replied, confused.

"Tell me what's going on.." pausing "I would like to know"

She sipped her water, blinking at me. "Well, you obviously know I'm adopted now.. What else is there to know?" raising her brows with a slight shrug

I shifted in my seat, picking up the menu pondering it. As we sat in silence.

"These king crab legs are looking pretty good" I said, breaking the awkward that filled the room.

"That's what I'm saying .." she giggled

The waitress came and tended to our orders. Not long after she returned with our meals, yum.

Zoe glanced at me, as I caught it by the corner of my eye.

"Do you have a girlfriend ?" she asked, twirling her noodles around her fork

"No." I said, irritated at the situation

"Woah, a little hostile are we?" she hissed at me.

I looked down into my plate. "Sorry" ... "I'm single, and I plan on staying like that for a while"
