CHAPTER SEVEN

The next few days went by, with the same old boring routine.

I needed a change before I went crazy.

"Hey, Carter?" I asked one day at lunch.

"Yeah, Rider?"

"What's there to do around here?" I wondered to him.

"Lots," he ruffled my hair and I smoothed it back out, "you should go exploring! You know, be all, 'doo doo doo doo Dora!'!"

I laughed, and played with the cap on my Sprite.

"We could go see a movie!" Wendy suggested, looking more at Gabe than me.

Whatever. Let them have their fun.

Gabe agreed, and they took off for the built in theatre.

"What'd you have in mind, my little winged friend?" Liz asked.

"Uhh..."

"We could go to school, you know they have that here, right?" Austin suggested. We all stared. "Do you seriously think I meant that? Let's go out THERE!"

"You don't mean...?"

"We couldn't!"

"It's forbidden now that we reside here!"

"Oh, lighten up!" he urged us, "it could be fun!"

"But how do we get out?" I asked, intrigued by the idea.

"Easy. While Carter here, has it bad for Rave," he winked at Carter, "he could distract her. Lil here, can multiply and sneak past Rave and cut the camera wires, all at once. Grabbing the keys to everything in the back office. Then Liz can do that special dance she's taught her tattoos and put Rave to sleep. Same with the guards. Then, and only then, will Jules and I give the signal. And we leave!" Austin drew on the table with his finger, creating an invisible map, "tomorrow at six. Bright and early!"

"What's the signal?" I asked.

"A bird call?"

"Oh, it's been so long since I've heard a bird..."

"Clapping?"

"The word 'halo'?"

"How about," I cut in, "hissing? You know, so they might think its just Rave?"

"Excellent!" Liz clapped.

"So it's settled. Lil, Austin, Rider, Liz, and I are getting out. To explore!" we all shook on it.

"Great! See you tomorrow! Meet at the hallway leading to the front desk."

And we all split.

-----

The next morning, I got up early and took care to hide my wings, so the outer world wouldn't see them.

We then met up, just like planned.

"Let's go!" Lil whispered.

We followed the steps by how they were stated the afternoon before.

I followed Austin, close on his heels.

"Hisssss....hisssssss...."

Footsteps lightly hit the carpet and we all ran out the front door.

No problems...yet.

Lil unlocked the massive prison looking gate, and we ran for it.

Once hidden in the woods nearby, I let my wings loose.

"What now?" Liz asked.

"Now," Austin smirked, "we explore!"
