"Hey guys" Caspar says walking into the kitchen a grabbing a beer for himself.
"Where the hell have you been lee? I thought you were dead" Joe says as Caspar sits next to him on the sofa. He hadn't even looked at me yet.
"Oh you know... stuff" Caspar says weirdly.
Joe and Byron share a weird look.
"Ok then" Byron says unconvinced.

Caspar downed his beer and slammed his glass bottle down on the coffee table.
This startled me causing me to look up at the South African.
You could cut the tension in the room with a knife.
"You ok bro?" Byron asked Caspar.
"Fine" was all Caspar could respond with.
There was another short silence.
"So Evie I didn't think you'd be here"
"Funny that Caspar as you were the one to beg me to stay here" I snapped at him.
Caspar looked at me but as soon as I looked back at him his gaze averted to his empty bottle of beer.
Why was he acting like such a jerk.

"Byron, I think John next door wanted us to water his plants. You coming?"
"Who's John?"  Byron asked confused at my brothers statement.
"You know! John!"
"Joe I have no clue what your on about"
"Byron for Christ's sake take the hint! Come with me to feed the damn PLANT!"
"Ohhhhhhhhh yeah plant. John. Yup I remember"
Joe grabbed his roommates arm and pulled him out the flat.

"sooooo this is fun" I say swirling around the last bit of beer that I had in my bottle.
"Evie I-"
"You know what Caspar your a liar"
"What?"
"You know what I mean! 'Evie I'm not like that' that's the biggest load of bullshit I've heard all year"
"Yeah I know, I shouldn't have left I was a wuss"
"Damn right you were"
"I just didn't want to make you uncomfortable"
I swallowed the last bit of beer left in my bottle.
"You made me uncomfortable by leaving" I say in barely a whisper.

"I'm really sorry, it was just that...
you said it was a mistake and I didn't want to put pressure on you"

I looked up at him, his eyes filled with sadness. I loved Caspar.

Just not like that.
He was my second brother and what did happen was a mistake, I was upset and stupid and I lead him on.

I went and sat next to him.
My head snuggled into the crock of his neck he wrapped his arm around me.

"I'm sorry Caspar. I screwed up our friendship. Your like my brother and I would never mean to make you feel like this. I love you"

He let out a shaky sigh.
"I love you too Evie"
