In the cool of the desert night
The sky is alight
With a carpet of stars,
Which, though the light comes from light years away
We feel we may reach out and touch them
Today.
In the cities of the world
The night skies are dimmed
Neons bright and traffic lights
Distract
But less busy lovers
Still employ
The joy the stars provide.
On deep oceans
And on emerald seas
Sailors still are pleased
To be safely guided home.
Distant lovers
Miles apart
Can join their hearts
When both gaze at the sky
And see the self same stars
In their mind's eye.
