Late Autumn Days

As the nights draw in

And the days lose strength,

The regal sun drops slowly,

Irrevocably,

Towards the west

To rest.

Sister moon

Prepares to light the world

With silver.

Her gentle light

Prepares the night

For all.

In cities, all across the world,

In gutters,

Golden leaves, like pirate ships,

Drift toward the coast,

In hope that they may

Arrive in Nassau.

In these same cities,

Day inhabitants

Head for home.

Closing curtains,

And embracing

The night to come.

Night walkers

Take the streets

For their own.

Closed shops

With garish lights

Are home.

Behind closed curtains,

Children climb the wooden hill,

To dream of princes and princesses.

Lovers make this time their own,

To lose the wrath of daylight,

And make this autumn night their own.
